📢✨ Spain will soon be at the forefront of healthcare digitalisation with the new National Health Data Space [Espacio Nacional de Datos de Salud]! 💻 The Spanish Ministry for Digital Transformation and the Civil Service is pushing the ambitious health data lake project, a data repository that will collect and analyse health data at the national level. Thanks to an investment of 100 million euros from the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan [Plan de Recuperación, Transformación y Resiliencia], this project will transform public health management in Spain. 👨⚕️ This initiative will not only improve the response capability of the Spanish health system but will also make Spain a European leader in using and sharing health data. 🔍 Spain is already a pioneer in the implementation of electronic medical records in its hospitals, following behind only the Nordic countries. 🤖 When we think of artificial intelligence (AI) in healthcare, our imagination can easily run wild, envisaging almost human-like beings with empathy and advanced reasoning that, with a full scan, can successfully diagnose and treat any disease. However, despite recent leaps forward in AI, its capabilities are still far from those seen in science fiction. Today, AI systems are powerful tools designed for specific tasks, and, although they can process and analyse data at incredible speeds, they lack human contextual understanding and empathy. One of the most promising applications of AI in healthcare is the early diagnosis of diseases. AI models can already identify suspicious patterns in images that are sometimes difficult to discern, even for the most experienced specialists. 🌟 This is the work of Lãberit, one of the stakeholders in the Health2Innovation project. ❗Bridging the gap: Enhancing digital competencies among healthcare professionals   Rapid advances in technology and globalisation have revolutionised the healthcare landscape, highlighting the need for new competencies among healthcare professionals. However, this transition raises major challenges, as highlighted in two pivotal studies. 👨⚕️The first, “Transferring Healthcare Professional’s Digital Competencies to the Workplace and Patients: A Pilot Study”, conducted in 2022 by Spanish universities, conclude that although nearly 60% of the surveyed professionals applied their digital training in their work, only 16% used these skills daily. An updated systematic review by scholars at Italian universities in 2024 complements the findings. EVmiR leverages the power of extracellular vesicles (#EVs) to deliver microRNAs (#miRNAs) directly into tumors, precisely targeting oncoproteins that drive cancer cell growth and metastasis. This innovative approach not only minimizes side effects but also holds promise for the early detection of high-risk genetic markers.
