A major breakthrough in pain management? Rutgers researchers have found a new way to manage the receptors that control the sense of touch, which could lead to treating chronic pain more effectively. Using phosphatidic acid as a regulator of the sense of touch may lead to new treatments for better pain relief, according to a Rutgers Health study. https://lnkd.in/dZQFyDqg Cc: Rutgers Research Rutgers University

The HELIX is rising due to the efforts of thousands of people. This week is National Construction Appreciation Week, which commenced on Monday, September 16th. This often overlooked annual 5-day tribute focuses on celebrating the (more than) 11 million hardworking humans who contribute to the development of America’s infrastructure and facilities.

This, here, is the final steel beam. On Friday, Sepember 6th, it was signed by hundreds of people, hoisted 250 feet into the air, and placed atop H-1 at HELIX NJ. The "topping off" marks the completion of a major phase in the construction of the 12-story, 574,000 square foot building, which is the first of three buildings to be built at The HELIX. For those unfamiliar with this celebratory moment, a “topping off” ceremony is a custom dating back to ancient Scandinavian culture, to recognize a significant milestone during the construction of a new building.

Proud to have Nokia Bell Labs bringing this type of research, development, and innovation to The HELIX and New Brunswick, NJ. _____________________ NASA contractor Axiom will use Nokia’s tech as the primary comms system for the space suits that astronauts will wear during the Artemis III landing. ••• “Just as astronauts will need life support, shelter and food, they will need advanced networks to communicate with each other and go about their crucial work,” said Thierry Klein, President of Bell Labs Solutions Research at Nokia. “Bell Labs has a long history of working on space projects, and Nokia is a leader in designing and building networks that connect the world.” “We are taking advantage of the same standards-based technologies that connect billions of devices on Earth every day, while bringing new innovation and technologies to bear on the specific challenges encountered in space." ••• Read more: https://lnkd.in/gfVTmWf7 https://lnkd.in/gHcxC45c

N.J. ranked No. 3 in country for VC investment in 1st half of 2024. "This week, PitchBook ranked New Jersey third in the country for venture capital investment in the first half of 2024 — another milestone climb in VC investment that had dropped dramatically before Gov. Phil Murphy took office. In the first six months of the year, New Jersey had $9.8 billion in VC investment (on 103 deals), a bit behind No. 2 New York ($12.6 billion) but well ahead of No. 4 Massachusetts ($6.9 billion). All three trailed No. 1 California ($40.4 billion), but that is expected. The four states were the only states in the country to top even $3 billion in investment for the first half of 2024. The $9.8 billion investment in VC money in the first six months roughly equals the total VC investment in the state for 2021-23 in its entirety." Via ROI-NJ: https://lnkd.in/eivJrGVh

Rutgers university researchers will receive $16 million to lead different projects with the goal of fortifying New Jersey's coast against climate change and extreme weather events. The funding will also help Rutgers develop the next generation of climate resilience experts by providing hands-on experience for its graduate and undergraduate students across these projects.
