HELPS 1:1 tutoring is a great volunteer option for former school staff because: - Build relationships with students. 🤝 - No material prep + scripted lessons. ✏️ - Effective and efficient - each session is only 20 minutes! ⏰ If you have left education - or know someone who has - and still want to support schools, come learn more about HELPS 1:1 tutoring: https://lnkd.in/eggeq2CK 📚

This National Book Month, we’re excited to highlight 𝘏𝘰𝘸 𝘏𝘪𝘨𝘩 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘔𝘰𝘰𝘯 by Karyn Parsons and wish her a Happy Birthday! 🌙 Set in 1944, 𝘏𝘰𝘸 𝘏𝘪𝘨𝘩 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘔𝘰𝘰𝘯 follows 12-year-old Ella, who loves spending her days fishing and running around with her best friends, but Ella also faces challenges. Because of her lighter skin tone, Ella faces bullying from her peers. With her mother away chasing her dream of being a Jazz singer, Ella doesn’t get much time with her. After an eye-opening trip with her family over Christmas break, Ella returns home to learn that one of her schoolmates, George, has been arrested for the murder of two local white girls. Set in the Jim Crow South, 𝘏𝘰𝘸 𝘏𝘪𝘨𝘩 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘔𝘰𝘰𝘯 is described by many as bittersweet and eye-opening. This timeless novel is about a girl finding herself in a world all but determined to hold her down.
