  • "One conversation sparked my curiosity, got me a mentor, and ultimately set me on the career path I’m on today." For many professionals, networking isn’t just about exchanging business cards, it’s about life-changing opportunities. That was the case for our Co-founder Tolu Ajibola when she attended a career program as an engineering student. At the event, she met a professional working in Corporate Services—a role she had never heard of before. That simple introduction led to the opening of a mentorship relationship and guidance in a career path she hadn’t previously considered. Her key takeaway? The right conversation at the right event can change everything. If you’re looking to expand your network, connect with industry leaders, and open doors to new career opportunities, the UnleashHer Potential Summit is where you need to be. • One of the many unique challenges of being a woman in tech, especially at a leadership level, is asking for what you’re truly worth. Negotiating your salary and benefits shouldn’t feel like a battle, but with the persistent gender pay gap, it often does. According to Morningstar's analysis of 2023 proxy disclosures, among the top earners at S&P 500 companies, men received a staggering $18.5 billion in total compensation, while women earned just $3 billion—only 14% of the total. Last month, we had an honest conversation about salary and benefits negotiations for women in tech, particularly at the C-suite level. The reality? Many women hesitate to negotiate, and when they do, they often settle for less than their male counterparts. So, how do you close the gap at the negotiation table? Here are some key takeaways from that discussion: 📌 Know Your Worth (and the Market Rate): Before negotiating, research salary benchmarks for your role and industry. Websites like Glassdoor, Levels, and LinkedIn Salary can provide valuable insights. 📌 Negotiate Beyond The Salary: Compensation isn’t just about the base pay. Women can—and should—negotiate for stock options, bonuses, flexible working conditions, leadership development programs, and even executive coaching. 📌Confidence is Key: Many women fear appearing "too aggressive" in negotiations, but data shows that men negotiate their salaries four times more often than women. Speak up, make your case, and own your value. 📌 Timing Matters: The best negotiation moments are during performance reviews, after a major achievement, or when transitioning to a new role. 📌 Leverage Multiple Offers: If you are interviewing for multiple roles, use competing offers as leverage to negotiate a better package. The bottom line? Women in tech deserve to be paid what they are worth—at every level. The first step is demanding it. What’s your experience with salary negotiations? Have you ever asked for more and gotten it? Let’s talk. ⬇

A few months ago, I had the opportunity to mentor IFUNANYA OKAFOR through the HerSynergy Tribe. She was working as a Customer Success personnel in her company but had a strong passion for design. Through our mentorship sessions, we worked on refining her skills, building confidence, and positioning her for opportunities. In January, she officially transitioned into a design role in the same company! 🎉 Seeing her growth and evolution over the past few months has been fulfilling, and I’m beyond happy that my guidance played a part in her journey. But mentorship doesn’t stop at just securing a role; I’m still keeping tabs on her progress, helping her navigate new challenges, and ensuring she thrives in her new position. Excited to see how her journey continues to unfold! #Mentorship #UXDesign #Growth #HerSynergy #DesignCareer #WomenInDesign
