Congratulations to our structural heart team for completing their first procedures using the Abbott Navitor™ TAVR valve! Oklahoma Heart Institute is the first hospital in Oklahoma to use this technology, which is the newest TAVR valve platform to be approved in the United States. Transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) is a minimally-invasive, life-saving procedure for treatment of aortic stenosis, the narrowing of the main heart valve. We are thrilled about the ongoing technological advancements that we can use to assist our patients who struggle with aortic stenosis symptoms! • Oklahoma Heart Institute (OHI) is currently participating in the ALT-FLOW II clinical trial for patients experiencing heart failure symptoms. Congestive heart failure is a chronic condition that affects many people, with symptoms like shortness of breath, fatigue, swelling in the legs and ankles and difficulty exercising. This often limits heart failure patients from fully enjoying their lives. The ALT-FLOW II Trial evaluates a promising new therapy to implant a shunt in the heart, relieving heart failure symptoms. The investigational APTURE shunt device used in the trial is delivered without major surgery. It uses a catheter from the neck vein and is designed to reduce excess pressure in the heart that may be resulting in heart failure symptoms. Encouraging data from an early feasibility study of this device showed that patients had improvement in heart failure symptoms and increased exercise capacity. OHI is the only center in the region enrolling in this trial. Visit https://lnkd.in/gXk-96Mt to learn more. To learn more about clinical research at Oklahoma Heart Institute, please visit ohref.org.

  • After going through years of heart issues and noticing tightening in her chest and shortness of breath, Carol Hasselman turned to Dr. Kamran Muhammad and his team at Oklahoma Heart Institute (OHI) for help. They treated her tricuspid regurgitation, or leaky heart valve, with a new therapy: an EVOQUE valve. OHI is the only hospital in Oklahoma that offers this therapy commercially. Dr. Muhammad and Carol sat down with KJRH to talk about the procedure and how Carol's symptoms have improved thanks to the new technology.

  • Hillcrest is focused on the fight against lung cancer through early screenings. In honor of World Lung Cancer Day, we’re highlighting our recent participation in the Oklahoma Thoracic Oncology Program Summit. Our team spoke about the importance of building a high-quality lung program. In Oklahoma, the five-year survival rate for lung cancer is just 21%. Only 1.7% of high-risk patients are screened, which is significantly lower than the national rate of 4.5%. Hillcrest is committed to improving these statistics. Through collaboration, innovative care and community engagement, we can make a difference! Learn more at lungexam.com. #WorldLungCancerDay
