On October 27th, 2024, at former President Trump’s rally in NYC, vile and racist comments were directed at the Latino community, including a disrespectful remark calling Puerto Rico a “floating island of garbage.” This rhetoric not only reveals ongoing challenges faced by Latinos but also openly highlights the MAGA crowd’s hostility toward Latino population growth, framing Latinos as an invading force through offensive language and perpetuating harmful stereotypes about Black Americans. Frankie Miranda, President and CEO of the Hispanic Federation, emphasizes the importance of unity and participation in the upcoming elections: “You cannot continue to disrespect us and think that we are not going to remember that when we go to the ballot box. Two weeks before election day, the HF team is actively engaging with voters and partners in battleground states. We were thrilled to continue this work when we hosted a town hall in Charlotte, North Carolina! Partnering with Telemundo’s El Poder En Ti and organizations like Latino Victory Project, Mi Familia Vota, Latin American Coalition, and Carolina Migrant Network, we delved into the pressing issues motivating our community to #GetOutTheVote. The event featured welcome remarks from Jose Hernandez Paris, CEO of the Latin American Coalition, followed by a powerful Telemundo PSA presented by Luis Rosero from NBCUniversal Telemundo. Moderator Jorge Velez Carrasquillo guided an insightful panel discussion, where panelists shared their perspectives before engaging in an audience Q&A. Lariza Garzon wrapped up the program and invited guests to a networking reception, fostering connections among attendees. Hispanic Federation’s President and CEO, Frankie Miranda, also shared key insights from our Latino Voter Poll focusing on battleground states, including North Carolina where 73% of Latinos said they almost certainly will vote in the 2024 election. A heartfelt thank you to the Farmworker and Landscaper Advocacy Project (FLAP) for recognizing Laine Rolong’s leadership in supporting low-wage farmworkers and meatpackers in Illinois. Laine Rolong oversees a multimillion-dollar USDA grant as part of the Farm and Food Workers Relief Program (FFWR) at the Hispanic Federation. Hispanic Federation just wrapped up a 3-state Midwest tour, unveiling critical poll results that show Latino voter enthusiasm is at an all-time high in key battleground states like Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Wisconsin!     Top voter concerns include:  🗳️ Cost of living  🗳️ Reproductive rights  🗳️ Sensible gun control  🗳️ Climate change    Latinos overwhelmingly support progressive policies and are motivated to vote for candidates who protect their rights and promote equality. With 71% of Latino voters planning to head to the polls, the 2024 election could be decided by our community!
