We're getting closer to move-in day! Yesterday Homeward Bound staff and volunteers joined Beverly-Grant, Inc. and McKibbon Places for a beautification day at Compass Point Village. Taking the time to pull weeds, lay mulch, and clean up the exterior is an important part of the preparation to open Compass Point Village. "Anywhere you look in Asheville, there's beautiful apartments. So, our folks don’t deserve anything less," Compass Point Village program manager H.B. Rowland said. "We want to make sure we really take care of it and make it seem like somewhere that somebody really wants to be and a place to call home." Next month, we'll open the doors and welcome home 87 of our neighbors who have been experiencing chronic homelessness. Compass Point Village is the permanent supportive housing residence where residents will have a safe and stable place to call home, as well as have access to critical services like medical and behavioral health clinics, and ongoing case management. States are experiencing extreme heat waves, which is another threat our neighbors experiencing homelessness have to navigate. According to the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services, more than 400 people visited emergency rooms across the state between July 2 and July 8 for heat-related illnesses. We're honored to receive a $25,000 grant from Bank of America to support case management services at Compass Point Village. Compass Point Village will provide permanent supportive housing for 85 people experiencing chronic homelessness. Bank of America's gift will support on-site case management services for residents. Each resident will have an individualized case management plan to enhance both housing stability and independence. Individual services will also include behavioral health, social and educational activities, and job training. "This grant from Bank of America helps fill an important need at Compass Point Village," said Permanent Supportive Housing Director Jenny Moffatt. "Our 92% success rate in keeping formerly homeless folks in housing is due to the support that we provide through case management. We are very appreciative of this generous grant."
