Type 1 diabetes, once known as juvenile diabetes, is a chronic condition occurring when the pancreas produces little or no insulin. Typically diagnosed during childhood or adolescence, it can also develop in adults. Treatment for people living with Type 1 diabetes focuses on managing blood sugar levels with insulin, diet, and lifestyle to prevent complications. What does Infusion Therapy treat? There are many chronic and acute illnesses that can be treated with medicine via infusion therapy. Typically, Infusion Therapy is used to treat serious or chronic infections that do not respond to oral antibiotics; pain caused by cancer; diseases of the gastrointestinal tract; dehydration caused by nausea, vomiting and diarrhea; multiple sclerosis, some forms of arthritis and other serious diseases, such as Crohn's disease, are common examples. Miller County Hospital's Swing Bed program provides short-term care for patients recovering from a stroke. Many times, patients have to be discharged from acute care hospitals due to reimbursement regulations but aren't quite ready to go home. Our hospital has designated beds for people recovering from a stroke; these patients receive therapy, nutrition advice, and skilled nursing care for one – two weeks after acute care discharge.
