So far this week, we've been exploring many topics related to innovation in hospitality, specifically focusing on innovation in operating practices and business models that could help address some of our industry's most pressing challenges. To give you another perspective on this, we're joined today by Rocco Bova, who has managed some of the world's most prestigious hotels for brands like Aman and St. Regis and today advises owners and operators as a consultant. With over 25 years of experience across five continents, Rocco brings unique insights to our discussion. In this episode, he shares stories from his career that I think you'll enjoy and learn from, his views on technology in hotels, the importance of human connection in luxury service, and how the hospitality industry can address its current challenges, particularly around staffing and employee retention. 🎧 Listen to the Hospitality Daily Podcast on Spotify or Apple Podcasts or here: https://lnkd.in/gcjpYQHV ➕ Follow Hospitality Daily here for more stories like this

“Experience” and “community” are two words so overused that we risk thinking about them too simplistically and missing out on their power in hospitality. There are a few things on my mind this morning that set the stage for the topic we're learning about today... 1) What William Graf mentioned in our discussion on the next wave of hospitality: on transformation being the gold standard for experiences 2) What Charlie MacGregor shared yesterday about community at The Social Hub and this morning about what he learned through volunteering at a refugee camp (Check these out on the Hospitality Daily Podcast if you missed them) Today, Charlie joins us again to explore the intersection of community, experience, and education and the opportunities it represents in hospitality - which he alludes to in this short clip from our conversation... The big idea: Education leads to transformation, building vibrant communities and thriving hospitality businesses. "You need to think about how to bring [your community] together in a nice and natural way," Charlie shares. "One of the ways that we felt was a very genuine way to do that was through education and lifelong learning." Why this matters: Community is powerful, but you can’t cultivate it just because you want it. You need a catalyst for connecting people. Put this into action: • Brainstorm: What might your guests be interested in learning? • Assess: Who do you know who could teach this? (Think expansively - this can be a great opportunity to develop your team or spotlight a great organization in your area) • Pilot: Start small - you can begin with a small talk hosted in your space and see what the reception is. Learn and grow! Want more on this, including how TSH is working with Talent Garden to achieve this? How do you create a vibrant, multi-use space that attracts travelers and locals alike—while maximizing revenue and profitability? Today, we're learning from Charlie MacGregor, founder of The Social Hub - exploring the revolutionary concept he pioneered: “hybrid hospitality.” The big idea: Bringing diverse groups of people together in flexible spaces for multiple purposes creates more vibrant environments, more resilient revenue, and higher profits. Why this matters: With profits under pressure, we need more creative ways to maximize our buildings' returns from every square foot (or meter!). From creative and flexible use of space to coworking to events, Charlie shared so many examples of how they do this that opened my eyes—and I think might inspire you to think about what's possible as well. 🎧 Listen to Charlie now on the Hospitality Daily Podcast on Spotify or Apple Podcasts 📺 Watch our conversation on the Hospitality Daily YouTube channel ♻️ If you learned something here, repost it with your thoughts to help someone else! 👋 And if you're new here, I'm Josiah Mackenzie, and I invite you to follow this page (Hospitality Daily) for more stories like this I share each day

What would it (really) take to run a hotel in a way that allows creativity to thrive and profits to increase? Today, hotel investor and advisor Adam Zembruski explains: https://lnkd.in/gf37QBM6 He responded very thoughtfully to my recent post about a conversation I had with Visit Napa Valley CEO Linsey Gallagher, and I knew I needed to have him join us to discuss it. Adam pulls no punches when explaining the reality of what it's like to own and operate a hotel today, and I appreciate it because while I know there is so much opportunity for innovation in hospitality, I also realize there are a lot of constraints that need to be overcome to make that happen. Listen to Adam's unfiltered insights now to understand what's going on - and what you can do about it: 🎧 Tune in to the Hospitality Daily Podcast on Spotify or Apple Podcasts or here: https://lnkd.in/gf37QBM6 👋 And if you're new here, I'm Josiah Mackenzie, and I invite you to follow this page (Hospitality Daily) for more stories like this I share each day

There are some dangerous blindspots hospitality leaders miss that we need to talk about. Today, COO-turned-hotel investor Adam Zembruski shares his perspective on the systemic issues within the hotel industry that are holding back real innovation and progress. 🎧 Listen to the Hospitality Daily Podcast on Spotify or Apple Podcasts The big idea: We must listen better to more voices than we are now to break out of "business as usual” and move forward. "I no longer go to conferences," Adam told me. "The general managers and others doing the work of hospitality don’t get to go." As a hospitality leader, it's easy to become disconnected from the day-to-day experiences of your frontline staff. Understanding their perspectives and challenges is essential for effective leadership and driving innovation. By reconnecting with your teams on the ground and actively seeking out “blind spots,” you can gain valuable insights into the realities of working in the industry today and move ahead in a way that benefits everyone. Take action on this: 1) Think about how you can create educational opportunities for people beyond the C-suite of your corporate offices. To use one example Adam mentioned, the issue with so many industry events is the same people attend, and it's rarely the general managers or people on the front lines of hospitality. Create opportunities for everyone in your organization to learn and grow. 2) Get involved with an organization like DECA that creates more opportunities for people and could be an opportunity to show others the power and beauty of a career in hospitality. 3) Move beyond limited zero-sum thinking and think more expansively about how we can all grow together. 4) Work with a forward-thinking hotel management company. (The more people I speak with, the more I realize the importance of this. I'm writing an update to my guide here on this, so let me know if you'd like to participate in creating this.) This conversation with Adam today is a must-listen if you want to move your organization - and the hospitality industry - forward: 🎧 Listen to the Hospitality Daily Podcast now on Spotify or Apple Podcasts ♻️ If you learned something here, repost it with your thoughts to help someone else! 👋 And if you're new here, I'm Josiah Mackenzie, and I invite you to follow this page (Hospitality Daily) for more stories like this I share each day
