Please join Huff Powell Bailey in celebrating Juneteenth. On June 19, 1865, Union General Gordon Granger arrived in Galveston, Texas, and proclaimed freedom for all enslaved African Americans. The Emancipation Proclamation had already been issued by President Abraham Lincoln in 1863, but it took over two years for the news to reach Texas. Juneteenth is a significant holiday and serves as a commemoration of the end of slavery in the United States. It is a time to reflect on the struggles and resilience of African Americans throughout history and to celebrate and honor the heritage and achievements of African Americans while promoting unity and equality for all.
