There are people who come into your life and are pure MAGIC. I was blessed to meet Maricela Rios years ago through our mutual dear friend, Libby Mintz and everything about her is magic! At the time we met, I had no idea what she did for a living, I just knew that she was an amazing friend. Over the years, I have come to realize how incredible she is - Maricela Rios is brilliant, passionate about the work she does in the Domestic Violence community and the people she serves through her role as CEO of Human Options, Inc., she has a heart of gold and it is a true honor to call her my friend. It was such an honor to attend the Human Options, Inc. Annual Luncheon and see Maricela Rios in action, to sit with event Co-Chair, Clay Richardson as well as sit with one of the beautiful speakers who shared her personal story with the mission. There was not a dry eye in the house as she shared her story of growing up in a house where her mom experienced spousal abuse and the help that they received as a family from Human Options, Inc.. And their keynote speaker, Beverly Gooden drew us all in with her powerful personal testimony all around her powerful movement about #whyistayed. Thank you Beverly for your transparency, your vulnerability and honesty around how difficult domestic / spousal abuse is - not just the actual abuse (which is terrible in itself), but also the decisions to leave, the isolation, the aftermath of rebuilding a life, the financial burdens, etc. As you said, this is a societal issue that impacts far more people than we realize. Of course, it was wonderful as well to see some of my dear friends and champions for good in the room as well. Brenda Springer, APR, Chelsea McKinney, Gabriella Blanchard, Steve Churm.

Today is Fact Friday and we are highlighting that anyone can become victimized regardless of gender and sexual orientation, this includes men. One in two women and two in five men in Orange County experience relationship violence during their lifetime. If you or someone you know may be experiencing harm, you are not alone, and we are here to help. Our 24/7 hotline is available at 877.854.3594. #DVAM2024 #Relationshipviolence #domesticviolenceawarenessmonth #orangecounty #humanoptions #safelove

Today is World Mental Health Day! Did you know that people with mental health conditions report higher rates relationship violence than those without conditions? This means that people with mental health disorders are more likely to report the abuse they are facing and does not necessarily mean they experience abuse at higher rates. There are many factors that go into reporting abuse, however the stigma surrounding mental health and relationship violence may cause some to never report. Together we can prevent relationship violence by empowering each other to report domestic abuse. If you or someone you know is in an abusive relationship, please call (877) 854-3594. We are here to help. #domesticviolence #orangecounty #empowerment #relationship #SAFELOVE #mentalhealth #worldmentalhealthday
