A statewide non-profit dedicated to ending hunger for all New Yorkers
About us
Hunger Solutions New York is a caring and informed voice for hungry New Yorkers. We believe no one should ever wonder where their next meal is coming from. We strive to maximize participation in, and the effectiveness of, federally funded nutrition assistance programs including: • The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) • The School Breakfast Program • The Summer Food Service Program • The Child and Adult Care Food Program Hunger Solutions New York works one-on-one with those who struggle to keep food on the table. We fund community-based organizations to provide education, support and application assistance through the Nutrition Outreach and Education Program and the SNAP Help LI Initiative. These programs connect New Yorkers to federally funded nutrition assistance programs. We consult with, train and provide resources to non-profit organizations, school districts and other agencies to help make their anti-hunger efforts more efficient and effective. Hunger Solutions New York advocates for policies and legislation to improve nutrition assistance programs at the state and federal level. Based on consultation with federal and state administering agencies, partner organizations and local providers, we develop public policy recommendations to help significantly reduce hunger in New York State.

As WIC celebrates its 50th anniversary this year, we honor its impact on the health and well-being of New York's children and families. The first New York WIC agencies opened in 1974. Five decades later, WIC provides essential health and nutrition support to more than 400,000 New Yorkers a year. If you are pregnant or raising children under age five, chat with Wanda at WICHelpNY.org to learn about WIC and connect with a WIC office near you.

September is #HungerActionMonth, and the Hunger Solutions New York team proudly wore orange at our September staff meeting! While we celebrate the work that we do, we realize that hunger occurs every day. We want to shine a light on SNAP, WIC, School Meals, and other anti-hunger programs that help New Yorkers access nutritious food. We're grateful for the opportunities we receive to collaborate with state and national partners that share our mission of ending hunger in New York State.
