  • Mission Moment Spotlight: Horizons Mental Health Center ACT Team and Hutch Regional’s Behavioral Health Team! Here at HRMC, our care is deeply rooted in compassion and dedication. The Behavior Health Team and ACT team exemplified this when caring for a patient who arrived at the hospital unhoused, battling addiction, mental health, and carrying the weight of pregnancy. Both departments collaborated and sprang into action, providing prenatal care, stabilizing with necessary medications, and connecting with essential community resources. Through tireless dedication, the team empowered the patient to find stability and hope, and built a network of care extending beyond the hospital walls. Moments like this, highlight the profound impact both Horizons and Hutchinson Regional Medical Center make as healthcare institutions rooted in compassion and dedication. It highlights the transformative power of healthcare delivered with empathy and expertise. Special recognition goes to the incredible team members: Keta Morgan, Cody Blake, Victoria Conlon, Dakotah Sanders, Katy Price, Katie Weast, Kaylee Tabbert, and Cheryl Young. Their unwavering dedication made all the difference. #MissionMoment #CompassionateCare #Teamwork #HealthcareHeroes #CommunityImpact

As the demand for care swells and staffing levels still fall short, hospital capacity issues aren't budging. Some leaders are rising to the challenge with creative solutions — like sharing vital clinical resources within their localities. Dr. Jonna Jenkins, DNP, Chief Nursing Officer and Vice President of Patient Care Services, Hutchinson Regional Healthcare System, said her organization is reopening its pediatric unit — something she recognizes as "unusual" amid widespread unit closures. "The pediatric hospital that's located close to us is at maximum capacity most of the time," Dr. Jenkins told Becker's in the short video below. To increase patients' access to services, as well as upskill nurses at Hutchinson to deliver pediatric care, a partnership between the entities and sharing staff was an easy call. "It will help to take care of those pediatric patients that sometimes wait in EDs for hours and hours," Dr. Jenkins said. Forward-thinking, collaborative strategies that address healthcare's pervasive challenges are at the core of discussions at Becker's 12th Annual CEO + CFO Roundtable. Here, top decision-makers from hospitals and health systems across the country gather to share how they're innovating and where they're headed. Join us in November 2024: https://hubs.ly/Q02Jnznd0

My life has been interrupted lately by medical needs, and I just got off the phone with the lovely person doing surgery intake for my upcoming procedure. I feel new calm and confidence about the journey ahead of me because they were competent, thorough, so deeply kind, so warmly human. It was the care I got during and following my quite traumatic surgery a few years ago that made me want to work at Hutchinson Regional Healthcare System. It was my first significant medical procedure, and I was scared spitless. The calm I felt while lying on the cold surgery table because I’d been connected with as a person in every interaction, informed of everything they were about to do, and ensured even moments before starting anesthesia that I still felt good about going through with this… it was life-changing. When I started my career at HRMC, I had no idea I’d be a frequent flyer as a patient in the next few years, but every single time I am back in the tunnel of pain pre-surgery and healing up post-, I am grateful beyond words for the level of care this amazing team of people offers our community on some of the most vulnerable days of their lives. Being on the receiving end of care makes me more proud than ever to make my career here and support the vital work of healthcare in central Kansas.
