Hydronic Shell Technologies
Construction
Transforming buildings with our facade-integrated HVAC technology for cost-effective and non-invasive retrofits
About us
At Hydronic Shell Technologies, our goal is to transform the construction industry by introducing a new category of HVAC and facade system that will enable deep energy retrofits of existing multifamily buildings at the enormous scale necessary to dramatically reduce greenhouse gas emissions from cities around the world. The Hydronic Shell system will reduce the heating and cooling energy consumption of existing buildings by an order of magnitude while achieving major improvements in other key areas of performance, including thermal comfort and indoor air quality. Retrofitting the Hydronic Shell onto an existing facade will revitalize the building appearance with limitless architectural possibilities. Performing the work outside of the building minimizes tenant disruption and avoids costly tenant displacements. Beyond retrofits, the Hydronic Shell will also emerge as a preferred HVAC technology for multifamily new construction. Our technology will offer better performance at lower cost than any other HVAC technology on the market today. Buildings are one of the largest sources of CO2 emissions around the world. Societies understand that they must reduce these emissions dramatically, but the industry still lacks a solution that is cost-effective and can be deployed at the large scale necessary. The Hydronic Shell is a transformative new solution and we are on a mission to develop and deploy it across the globe as quickly as possible.

Congrats to Akshay Ramani, PE on his first big win at HST! The Innovation Fund from SyracuseCoE: NYS's Center of Excellence in Environmental and Energy Systems is a highly competitive and prestigious award from one of the leading building technology research centers in the country. Akshay gave the big pitch for the win. We’re incredibly excited to work with WALKAIR US LLC. and TROX North America LLC to execute this scope of work that includes the optimization of several key features of the HydroBox. The new design will be incorporated into our upcoming pilot project with the Syracuse Housing Authority, helping to ensure the highest standard of comfort, air quality, and reliability for the residents at 418 Fabius St. Read about it here: https://lnkd.in/eCbE6QGW #affordablehousing #retrofit #decarbonization #indoorairquality

We had a blast at the Builders Lab retreat in San Francisco along with our partners at Cycle Retrotech! We were inspired by the program put together by Ben White and Tyler Pullen, introducing us to leaders and ideas at the forefront of industrialized construction in the US. We’re honored to be part of this first cohort of companies that are pioneering innovations to bring scalable solutions to the affordable housing crisis. Thank you to cohort members B.Public Prefab , MODSpdx, Villa, and Cloud Apartments for sharing your experience and wisdom with us. Special thanks to Ben Silverman and Hugo Bovea who couldn’t join us because they were taking care of business back in New York. And to Terner Labs and all the program partners we met in SF that are too many to list here. We’re excited to participate in this program over the next year, which comes at the perfect time for us as we plan our next steps towards deployment of Hydronic Shell at industrial scale. We're thrilled to be selected for the inaugural cohort of the Builders Lab, a new accelerator program from Terner Labs which works to scale efficient, cost-effective and sustainable methods of housing delivery across the United States. The program will connect us with some of the best minds in construction to help scale Hydronic Shell retrofits in the coming years. This is a critical step towards achieving our vision and we’re so grateful for this opportunity. We’re especially thrilled that our partner Cycle Retrotech is also a member of this cohort! It’s another big day for HST and all of our partners. Thank you, Terner Labs! #affordablehousing #electrificiation #retrofit
Innovators in housing construction and delivery face unique hurdles on the path to growth, including a complex regulatory landscape and financing challenges. But the worsening housing crisis and intensifying climate impacts make new approaches more important than ever. We created the Builders Lab to support visionary leaders in architecture, engineering, construction and hardware as they work to advance their innovations and change the housing landscape for the better. Today, we're thrilled to announce the selection of our first Builders Lab cohort, made up of six companies from across the United States: B.Public Prefab , Cloud Apartments, Cycle Retrotech, Hydronic Shell Technologies, MODSpdx, and Villa. They bring a diverse array of approaches, including panelized and volumetric manufacturing and strategies to scale deep energy retrofits, workforce development, and demand aggregation. We're grateful for support from strategic partners Eden Housing, Inc., Hilti Group, SCB, Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM), and Suffolk Construction, and funding from Chan Zuckerberg Initiative and JPMorganChase. We’re incredibly fortunate to welcome Akshay Ramani, PE as the newest member of our Hydronic Shell team. Akshay is one of the brightest young stars in our industry and he will help lead our engineering work at this critical stage of our development, as we prepare to commercialize and scale our technology. Akshay graduated from the top technical university in India, National Institute of Technology, Surathkal (NITK), and earned a masters degree in mechanical engineering from UPenn before starting his career in NYC in 2017. Since then he’s proven that he has the talent, experience, and work ethic to make a big impact. We’re so grateful that Akshay has chosen to join us and that his efforts will be focused on helping to solve some of our industry’s biggest challenges. Please join us in welcoming and congratulating Akshay as he embarks on this new journey.
