September is National Preparedness Month, ⛑️ an annual FEMA and Ready campaign to promote preparedness and a culture of readiness. 🤝 The 2024 NPM theme is “Start a Conversation.” The theme recognizes that although talking about disasters can be difficult, starting the conversation 🗣️ will help individuals and families begin taking the necessary steps to incorporate preparedness into their lives. ✅ This year, the Ready campaign is focusing on helping the Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander communities better prepare by providing curated and language-appropriate resources and tips. ✨ Team IEM, as part of our everyday mission, is proud to join with FEMA in advocating for preparedness as an integral part of households and communities. Stay tuned 🚨 for weekly videos from IEMer subject matter experts discussing tips for disaster and emergency preparedness. 🔹 FEMA announcement: https://lnkd.in/eYHh6bvR 🔹 The White House proclamation: https://lnkd.in/eJE6EHCy 👀 Watch for our weekly tips on IEM's NPM page ➡️ https://lnkd.in/e4Gtw5kY #NPM2024 #NationalPreparednessMonth #StartAConversation #preparedness #readiness #BePrepared #BeReady #disasterpreparedness #emergencypreparedness #householdpreparedness #AANHPI #FEMA

🚨 Alert: Beware of Hurricane Helene Rumors and Misinformation Hurricane Helene's impact has left communities across the Southeast devastated. During this incredibly vulnerable time, local, state, and federal governments are on the ground aiding families and communities in need. Many survivors are being inundated with false claims and untrue stories regarding the recovery process and support services ahead. It’s important that we all do our part to stay informed and ensure that the information we consume and spread is real, verifiable, and comes from a trusted source. ❗ Don't fall for misinformation or rumors. ❓ Did you know that for every dollar 💲 spent on pre-disaster mitigation measures, the nation saves $6 dollars in the long run? ➡️ This information was outlined in the 2019 National Institute of Building Sciences (NIBS) “Natural Hazard Mitigation Saves” study, highlighting that mitigation is essential to facing future disasters more resiliently. This week, Bryan Koon, President & CEO of IEM and Chair of the NIBS TurboGrants Advisory Board, had an opportunity to highlight the TurboGrants portal 💻 at the National Emergency Management Association (NEMA) Annual Forum. At the Resilience Committee meeting, Bryan and his fellow board members highlighted the portal and its capabilities to help state, local, tribal, and territorial partners find 🔎 and access 🖱️ mitigation grant opportunities. The portal gathers grants across various agencies to display the information in one place. Following a couple of questions, users can leverage this portal to easily find grants that best fit their needs. ✅ By making grant opportunities more accessible, the TurboGrants portal will help grantees nationwide in finding, applying for, and distributing mitigation grant funding to build stronger, more resilient communities. Check out the video 📲 for more information from Bryan and the TurboGrants board ⤵️ #TeamIEM #IEMleadership #IEMer #NIBS #grants #NIBSTurboGrants #mitigation #predisastermitigation #mitigationgrants #grantsportal #grantopportunities #federalgrants #mitigationfunds

We are proud to share weekly tips alongside CISA to help you implement cybersecurity best practices. Tip #1: Use strong passwords 🔑 Longer passwords are best – aim for at least 16 characters 🔑 Use random characters – mixed-case letters, numbers, and symbols 🔑 Create passphrases – Combine 4-7 unrelated words (e.g., CatPizzaRainBookCar) 🔑 Keep it unique – Use different passwords for each of your accounts 🔑 Use a password manager – Keep all your passwords stored safely #CybersecurityAwarenessMonth #SecureOurWorld #safecyber #cybersecurity #cybersafe #cybersafety #onlinesafety #password #strongpasswords #passwordmanager #CISA
