IFAW explores new ways to improve conditions for animals, people, and the place we call home.

About us

IFAW explores new ways to improve conditions for animals, people, and the place we call home—and we’ve been leading the way for over 50 years. The problems we confront are urgent, complicated, and resistant to change. Solving them requires fresh thinking and bold action. So we look at the issues from different angles, make unexpected connections, and challenge the way things are done. Partnering with local communities, NGOs, and governments around the globe, we create real-world solutions that make an immediate and lasting impact.

Our latest research shows that criminals who inflict immense suffering on wild animals, such as beating to death, poisoning, or smuggling across borders illegally, are evading justice and penalties in the UK. Yet our survey showed that 97% of respondents believed people who torture wild animals should be punished. Do you agree? If you do, please help us encourage the government to take wildlife crime more seriously. A truly historic rescue! 146 dolphins were involved in a mass-stranding off Cape Cod at the end of June, and it was recently confirmed as the largest mass stranding of mammals in United States history. This rescue had many challenges due to the number of dolphins, how spread out they were, and the difficult conditions and locations where the stranding occurred, so we are even more proud to share that our team of volunteers and experts saved over 100 of the animals involved. Earlier this month, IFAW hosted a series of enlightening events at the Alibaba Global and Cainiao Headquarters, spotlighting an exhibit that brilliantly captured the essence of our Room to Roam initiative. This exhibit not only celebrated IFAW's remarkable 30-year journey and milestones in China, but also embodied the organization's commitment to environmental sustainability. In a creative and eco-conscious choice, the use of environmentally-friendly corrugated cardboard as the medium for the exhibit underscored both IFAW's achievements and our dedication to promoting a greener future.

Even after 25 years, we’re still challenging the way things are done! 🐬 IFAW continues to pioneer the way we rescue, research and release dolphins, and our new Dolphin Rescue Center is an exciting way to see that belief in action. This state-of-the-art facility is the first of its kind, giving even more dolphins a second chance at life after stranding. Activities conducted under a federal stranding agreement between IFAW and the NMFS under the MMPA. #IFAW #Dolphins #DolphinRescue #CapeCod

Technology has completely changed the way we understand and study wildlife—for the better! For example, we can collect location data, track herd movements, and even know how much battery life remains on an elephant satellite collar before it needs replacing. Innovations like this one will allow science-backed data to inform strong decisions for elephants and local communities for generations to come!

One of the accomplishments that I'm very proud of at ifaw, is our #AcademyOfRescueAndConservation (ARC). The academy is more than just about sharing information and passing down our expertise acquired from being in the conservation field for over 50 years--it's about turning every call of distress into an opportunity to save an animal and advance our collective knowledge. A shoutout here to the #SuzanneMcGrawFoundation, for their generous contribution and funding of ARC--helping us reach more people around the world and enable them to support communities living alongside wildlife, protecting animals, and ultimately safeguarding our planet. #Conservation #WildlifeRescue #Technology #Education https://lnkd.in/evTwCW3K
