  • Lacasa, Inc., founded in 1970 in Elkhart County, began as a community initiative to support low-income families with affordable housing. Over the decades, Lacasa expanded its offerings to include homeownership counseling, neighborhood revitalization, and financial empowerment programs. Soon, Lacasa will also be launching an auto loan program to continue the holistic approach of empowering individuals and families to achieve stability and success through these essential services. Today, it plays a vital role in strengthening communities and fostering economic growth across Elkhart County. • Recently, in conjunction with the Executive Director for Drug Prevention, Treatment and Enforcement and the Indiana Family and Social Services Administration’s Division of Mental Health and Addiction (DMHA), we announced an initiative to create rental housing developments to house persons with substance use disorder. IHCDA has $10,000,000 in National Opioid Settlement funding available to be used as capital funding to develop housing for persons with substance use disorder. The program concept is that a 501(c)(3) or 501(c)(4) non-profit developer will develop rental units and partner with a DMHA-certified treatment provider or certified recovery community organization to assist the residents with supportive services, including but not limited to case management, mental health counseling, substance use services, life skills, and coaching.  IHCDA will host a public meeting and networking event on September 19, 2024, to provide information about the program, answer questions, and connect non-profit developers with DMHA-certified service providers. In addition to the public meeting, IHCDA will also compile a list of interested non-profit developers and interested service providers in order to help facilitate partnerships. The list will be posted on IHCDA’s website and updated as new interested parties are added. Find more information about the initiative or RSVP for the public meeting here: https://lnkd.in/gQPP-jPQ

A new tool is available for Hoosiers seeking housing resources. Prosperity Indiana is proud to release a new statewide map of available housing counseling resources. Households in need of information and guidance on how to rent or own a home can find U.S. Department of Housing & Urban Development (HUD) housing counseling services near them by using the tool. HUD Housing Counseling Agencies (HCAs) provide information, advice, and guidance for people who are seeking to finance, maintain, rent, or own a home. Housing counselors also assist those facing homelessness and homeowners in need of foreclosure assistance. HCAs and housing counselors assist with educating clients on best rental practices, how to maintain a safe and healthy home, and how to prepare for future homeownership. HUD explains that HCAs and housing counselors play a crucial role in serving cost-burdened renter households or households that may be facing an eviction by, “helping clients identify an affordable unit, providing information to renters on tenant rights and fair housing issues, counseling on household budgeting,” and more. This new housing resource would not be possible without agencies in the Indiana Housing Stability Network that participate in the Indiana Emergency Rental Assistance 2 (IERA 2) program. These agencies play a foundational role in delivering HUD Housing Counseling services and making services accessible to households in Indiana. IERA 2 network providers assist households in a multitude of ways through HUD Housing Counseling by providing counseling services that focus on “improvement in life areas including but not limited to education, income, housing, and employment.” The new housing resource hopes to increase awareness of statewide HUD housing counseling services, and to further support and elevate the critical and ongoing work the IERA 2 network is doing to increase housing stability and to improve the financial and overall well-being of Hoosiers across the state. You can access the map by clicking here. To learn more about an agency or organization, please click on a point and expand the pop-up feature to access the following information: address, services and/or coverage area(s) (i.e. what county/counties or city/cities the agency or organization serves), website, and phone number. In the summer of 2023, A Town Arts launched a crowdfunding campaign for Anderson’s Artist Alley to transform an underused alley into an outdoor exhibition space for local artists. This free and public space would display ten local artworks on rotation year-round and encourage the thriving arts scene in Anderson. The project exceeded its goal of $38,750, raising $39,839 in support for the Artist Alley. By reaching their goal, A Town Center unlocked a matching grant from the CreatINg Places program, our crowdgranting partnership with the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority (IHCDA). The project received additional funding from AARP Indiana’s CreatINg Liveable Communities pilot program, providing an extra $5,000. Today, the Artist Alley features two archway gates that welcome visitors. Interactive overhead LED lighting illuminates the alley, creating a vibrant space at all times of day. Public art pieces by local artists line the alleyway in what has become an outdoor art gallery. #Placemaking #CommunityDevelopment #CreatingPlaces #PublicArt #ArtistAlley #Alley

Silver Birch of Kokomo had the privilege of hosting J. Jacob Sipe, Executive Director for our state partners at Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority (IHCDA), for a recent site visit. One of our amazing resident veterans, retired U.S. Marine Jim, hosted a tour for Jake and showed him everything Silver Birch has to offer for our seniors! Thank you to Jake and the team at IHCDA for everything they do for senior Hoosiers, and for stopping by and highlighting the beautiful property along with the many services and amenities we offer our residents like Jim!
