  • 🌟 Spotlight on Skill & Sustainability! 🌟 The Illinois Correctional Industries metal fabrication shop at Shawnee Correctional Center contributed to the Illinois State Fair's Monarch Butterfly exhibit with a unique, butterfly-themed bench made entirely from scrap metal along with a children's size bench and garden ornaments! 🦋 Shawnee ICI's talented individuals in custody are learning to design, fabricate, and finish metal equipment—from start to finish—while transforming what would have been waste into something beautiful and functional. This project not only refines their skills in drafting, welding, grinding, and painting but also serves our community with no added cost. 🌱 A special thank you to all the dedicated work crews who tirelessly grow the flowers and beautify the fairgrounds year-round, making the Illinois State Fair a true showcase of nature and creativity. 🌸 Be sure to check out this stunning, eco-friendly bench at the State Fairgrounds and see how innovation and rehabilitation come together! #IllinoisStateFair #CorrectionalIndustries #Sustainability #MonarchButterfly #SkillsForLife #RehabilitationThroughArt

  • 🎉 Celebrating Achievement at Taylorville Correctional Center! 🎉 On July 23, Taylorville Correctional Center held a programs ceremony to honor nearly 80 individuals in custody who have made significant strides in their personal and professional development. This event recognized those who graduated from Clinical Services classes, Vocational classes, and received their GEDs in the past six months. The graduates completed a variety of impactful programs, including START NOW, Anger Management, A New Direction, Horticulture, Culinary Arts, Career and Academic Exploration, Strategies for Career Success, and GED. Program Counselors Chet Crowe and Matt Dobson spoke about the importance of these programs, highlighting how they help individuals cope with daily stressors and reduce the risk of recidivism. Cody White, representing Academics, emphasized the significance of obtaining a GED. Special recognition goes to the four graduates who courageously shared their experiences and the positive impact these classes have had on their lives. Their words were inspiring and a testament to the power of education and self-improvement. 👏
