Our mission is to develop affordable housing, build welcoming communities, and foster vibrant futures.
About us
Imagine Housing develops affordable housing, builds welcoming communities and fosters vibrant futures. Our vision is an Eastside with interconnected and welcoming communities where all people can live, learn, work and play. We know that stability for the whole community starts with stability at home, one family at a time. However, for the hundreds of people in our community without a home, stability is nearly impossible. These men, women and children spend their nights in emergency shelters, cars, parks or outside on the street. They often don't sleep well, unsure if their family will be safe until morning. Not all of the people Imagine Housing serves are homeless. In our community, there are thousands of other families who have a roof overhead, but at far too high a price. Many local families are rent-burdened - paying more than 30 percent of their income towards rent. The high cost of rent places these families under incredible financial stress since funds are not available to meet other critical needs such as food, clothing and medical care. For these reasons and others, Imagine Housing is working strategically and rapidly to ensure that the most vulnerable among us have a safe, supportive and affordable place to call home. We are making dreams come true for hundreds of Eastside families and individuals. Our residential communities in Bellevue, Issaquah, Kirkland, Mercer Island and Redmond provide affordable rental homes to people in need of a place to live. Additionally, we offer the targeted services and support that our residents need to be stable, self-supporting and contributing members of our vibrant Eastside community. For the latest information and updates about what Imagine Housing is doing in the community, please like us on Facebook and Twitter, or email us at info@imaginehousing.org.

You may notice a familiar name in the latest issue of the Puget Sound Business Journal! "'It's really amaing to see Bellevue as the leader in this,' Yi Zhao, Imagine Housing Executive Director said. 'If other Eastside cities adopt similar land use codes, it could really move the needle on how much affordable housing is developed.'" According to the National Low Income Housing Coalition, someone working minimum wage needs to work 107 hours to afford a one-bedroom apartment in the Seattle/Bellevue Metropolitan Area. We are here to make housing more affordable for people on the Eastside. 📷: A collage painted by residents at Highland Gardens

Huge thanks to our speakers: Mayor Angela Birney, City of Redmond; Mayor Kelli Curtis, City of Kirkland; Mayor Nigel Herbig, City of Kenmore; Mayor Mary Lou Pauly, City of Issaquah; Mayor Mason Thompson, City of Bothell. Thanks go as well to our event sponsor, Amazon.

According to the Regional Affordable Housing Task Force's Final Report from December 2018, the need for more affordable homes in King County included "156,000 homes for households currently cost-burdened and an additional 88,000 homes for growth in low-income households between now and 2040. When low-income families spend more than 30 percent of their income on housing, they are cost burdened and struggle to afford other basic necessities like food, transportation, health care, and child care." Since this report was published, new units have been built, but there is still a long way to go. Read the full report at https://lnkd.in/dUjMW84Y

No matter what tools you choose for your plans, National Estate Planning Awareness Week, October 21-27, is a great time to consider what you have in place, any changes you need to make, and to outline your legacy. About two-thirds of Americans do not have an up-to-date estate plan — this is a great time to take a look at what you have or to get started! When you support Imagine Housing today and through your estate plan, you are a part of building on more than 37 years of successful growth. Together, we can build our legacy and our future — a welcoming Eastside community where all people can live, learn, work and play. By including Imagine Housing in your plans, you are helping to ensure affordable housing on the Eastside, for this generation and the next. Learn more at imaginehousing.org/donate.

Today we honor Indigenous Peoples' Day. Imagine Housing acknowledges we are on the land and waters of the Tulalip Tribes of Washington that include the Duwamish, Snohomish, Snoqualmie, Skagit, Samish, and Stillaguamish peoples, past and present. We value opportunities to support and partner with indigenous communities in our area, now and in the future. Want to get involved? You can join the Eastside Native American Education Program (ENAEP) for their Indigenous Peoples’ Day event today at 6:30pm at Lake Washington High School. #indigenouspeoplesday

We couldn’t do what we do without the many partners in our community who work side-by-side with us and provide support for Imagine Housing's Resident Programs. In fact, 106 program partners enriched residents' lives in 2023. Here are just a few of the partners and their impact numbers with us in 2023! Thanks to Platefull, households who live at Imagine Housing picked up food 4,059 times. Thanks to Farms for Life, households picked up food 240 times. And thanks to KidVantage, 84 households received 3,922 items for children.
