Tuesday was an amazing National Voter Registration Day at Microsoft! Between our numerous customer facing activations - from the Windows Lock Screen to Xbox to the Times Square Cube - and our employee promotions like our Civics Fair in Redmond, we registered tons of people to vote and let the world know how seriously we take civic engagement and defending democracy. Thanks to Skylar Coleman and Democracy Forward, Lindsay Baringer and Impactual LLC, Alex Saxerud and our Civic Engagement Vokunteer Team, Kaity Butcher, Patrick Kretzler, and Aleksey Fedorov and the Brand Marketing Team for helping us put on such an amazing and impactful day. And a special thank you to King County Elections and Naheed Gina Aaftaab, Ph.D. for joining the fun on campus and helping us register voters!!

Impactual has been fully remote for over four years now, and we’ve had to learn how to create a fun, vibrant, and rewarding company culture despite not seeing each other often. This has required intentionality, adaptability, and a bit of creativity. Check out our most recent article from Zoe Gelman, a director at Impactual, to see our approach! 💻 #RemoteWork #CompanyCulture

Every year, millions of Americans find themselves unable to vote because they miss a registration deadline, don’t update their registration, or aren’t sure how to register. National Voter Registration Day efforts create broad awareness of voter registration opportunities to reach tens of thousands of voters who may not register otherwise. Register, update, and check your registration today! https://lnkd.in/giJ8g73e

Jamie Skeele, graphic designer at Impactual LLC, peels back the curtain to share what the design process looked like when Impactual worked with Rebekah Fuller to design the brand for Fuller Doulas. When Lil Jon appeared at the United Center on behalf of Georgia’s delegation, the crowd’s roar overwhelmed our expectations. It was amazing! And now, after a week of coverage, it’s clear that the moment became we helped bring to life was one of the most memorable of the 2024 convention. Moments like this don’t just happen, though. This was the result of a decade of work. It was fun to tell Variety the story of how Tamar Juda, Lil Jon’s AMAZING publicist (and Impactual LLC senior advisor!!) and some fellow badass politicos (Colleen Loper and Carla Frank!) brought this to life. For all of us who care about the intersection of pop culture and social impact, I wanted to share a few lessons from this viral moment: 1. Ride the Wave….and Make It Bigger: It was meme-makers on social media who turned Lil Jon’s iconic lyrics into an ode to newly announced VP candidate Tim Walz. When Tamar and I got to work, we were building on an idea that had already started going viral. Without that groundwork, the moment would have been fun -- but perhaps not THE moment of the week. 2. Relationships Matter!: I first met Lil Jon ten years ago when we worked with him and his team to produce a nonpartisan PSA to encourage all eligible Americans to take part in the election. Our own friendship deepened when we helped him navigate a problem with Georgia elections that fall and ensure his own ballot would be counted. That was the beginning of a friendship with Lil Jon and his team. Ever since we have stayed in touch, discussing music and politics. We look for opportunities to collaborate, but it isn’t the heart of our relationship. This ongoing connection also meant that we had the trust necessary when we needed to move quickly. 3. Leaks Ruin the Fun: Skipping sound check upped the stakes for the appearance, but it also prevented the news from getting out. The reaction in the hall and online made it clear just how fun genuine surprise can be! It also amplified the buzz. 4. Work With the Right Partners for the Moment: This moment was so fortuitous but it wouldn’t have worked with anyone other than Lil Jon. It’s easy to plug your closest connections, but the true magic happens when you find the right partner for the moment. Obviously it takes extra work to reach the right partner (or to tell a longtime collaborator/ client that they are not the right fit!), but the payoff is worth it. Moments like this aren’t the biggest part of our work - but they do matter. And, as Tamar said about this experience, the women who got this done are a good bet - and we’ve got so much more to come! https://lnkd.in/eWyB6nBT

Something I had to learn in my years as an executive director is that when folks are asking *whether* working with a certain community is powerful that we should always rephrase that question to *how* working with that community is powerful. I'm incredibly proud of Impactual's founder Ashley Spillane and some many of our team members and outside partners who supported this new report breaking down best practices for celebrity and influencer work, especially around democracy. The reality is that from National Voter Registration Day to Power the Polls, many of our most visible and powerful events for democracy just wouldn't exist without the leadership of celebrities and influencers working to educate their vast communities and audiences. This report genuinely opens up the playbook. Celebrities and influencers can make a difference with modest, straightforward actions and there are also powerful ways for them to engage deeply. If you're tied into democracy or civic engagement work, or similar social impact projects, I strongly recommend taking the time to read through the whole report!
Athletes, artists, and celebrities can (and should!) use their platforms to boost civic engagement, especially with their young audiences. We are so excited to announce the launch of a groundbreaking new report published by Harvard Ash Center for Democratic Governance and Innovation titled “Celebrities Strengthening Our Culture of Democracy,” written by Impactual LLC's incredible president, Ashley Spillane. Read the full report at https://lnkd.in/gBfdef74 as well as CNN's coverage by Elizabeth Wagmeister here: https://lnkd.in/ebW8wCkf Check out this article further discussing the report. A special thank you to everyone who contributed to make this report possible: I am a voter., Influence Change 2020, HeadCount Org, Sunshine Sachs Morgan & Lylis, Civic Responsibility Project, Power the Polls, Andy Bernstein, Nicole Tibshraeny-Butler, Debra Cleaver, MANDANA DAYANI, Shomik Dutta, Joe Hines, Danny Hogg, Erika Soto Lamb, Toby Lelliott, Shawn Sachs, Natalie Tran, Tappan Vickery, Ben Wessel, Erin Lange, Juliette Boberg, Katherine Hernandez, Zoe Gelman, Jeffrey Seglin, Carolyn Fiddler, Archon Fung, and Dawn White.
