Meet Michael French, an #IDEM attorney and our agency ethics officer. Originally from Newburgh, Ind., he holds a BA in Science from Indiana University Bloomington, focusing on botany and invasive species, and a JD from IU Maurer School of Law. Before joining IDEM, Michael had a diverse career path. He found his way to IDEM after passing the Indiana bar exam thanks to his fiancée who works in our Office of Water Quality. In his current role, Michael primarily works with contracts, state ethics, and occasional HR matters. He's particularly excited about ongoing improvements to IDEM's contract process, aiming for increased efficiency. Outside of work, Michael enjoys outdoor activities like hiking and camping, as well as watching movies and cooking. #MeetTheTeamMonday

Talk about breathing in knowledge! 🌬️📊 19 Ball State University students from Dr. Bowen Zhang's Air Resource Class got a behind-the-scenes look at #IDEM's Office of Air Quality's Washington Park Air Monitoring Site in Indianapolis this week. 🏫🔬 This location is the Air Monitoring Branch’s busiest, collecting more compressive pollution data than any other site. Students also discovered the newly installed ceilometer for measuring cloud heights and mixing levels! 🌥️📡 Hands-on experiences like these are crucial for the next generation of environmental scientists. Thanks to Dr. Zhang for making this a regular part of her curriculum! 🙌🌎 #AirQuality #EnvironmentalEducation #IDEM #BallState

Think twice before you burn! 🔥 Open burning releases harmful pollutants into the air, impacting our health and the environment. Instead, try these eco-friendly alternatives: 🌿 Compost your yard and food waste to create nutrient rich compost for your use in your garden. 🍃 Leave the leaves! Don’t rake your leaves. Instead, either leave them in place to decompose over the winter or use a mulching mower to allow for the nutrients to return to the soil. 🚛 Utilize local yard waste pickup/drop off sites. Let’s work together for cleaner air and a healthier Indiana.🌎 Learn more about #IDEM's recommended alternatives for safe and sustainable ways to manage your waste: https://bit.ly/48efGHI 🗑️ #CleanAir #SustainableIndiana #GoGreen #LeaveTheLeaves

🌿 Happy Sustainability Day from IDEM! 🌎 Small changes can make a BIG impact on our environment. Here are some tips to live more sustainably: 🚗 Drive Less: Combine errands, carpool, or use public transportation to reduce your carbon footprint. 💧 Conserve Water: Fix leaky faucets, use water-efficient fixtures, and turn off the tap while brushing your teeth. ♻️ Reduce, Reuse, Recycle: Follow the 3 R’s by recycling right and finding new uses for items before throwing them away. 🌱 Green Your Home: Plant native plants, create a rain garden, and use natural cleaning products. #SustainabilityDay #GoGreen #SustainableIndiana

Starke County REALLY showed up at our last e-cycle event! Thanks to 238 participants, we collected a total of 34,753 lbs of electronics, including 489 TVs and monitors! That's close to the weight of 3 elephants 🐘 🐘 🐘 #IDEM teamed up with Electronic Recyclers International (ERI), Secure Shred LLC, Knox Community School Corporation, and the Starke County Solid Waste Management District to keep e-waste out of Indiana’s landfills. Together, we’re reducing electronic waste and protecting our environment. Let’s keep the momentum going and make sure our tech is disposed of responsibly! 🌿♻️ #eWasteRecycling #KeepIndianaBeautiful
