The Indian Law Resource Center (ILRC) has begun its participation in the 57th session of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva. In meetings with the UN Special Rapporteur on the rights of Indigenous peoples and the UN Expert Mechanism, Indigenous leaders from Brazil and Argentina, alongside ILRC, presented the serious impacts of the "Time Frame/Marco Temporal" thesis in Brazil and lithium exploitation in Jujuy, Argentina, both carried out without the proper consent of the affected communities. These meetings highlight the urgent need to protect the territorial and human rights of Indigenous peoples. We are saddened by the recent passing of our dear friend, Dra. Cristiane Baré. Cris, a member of the Baré indigenous nation in Brazil, was a wonderful lawyer, a powerful advocate, and a great leader in Brazil's indigenous movement, where she worked tirelessly to advance the rights of indigenous youth, to restore safety for indigenous women, and to secure indigenous lands. We are so proud to have known her and worked with her. We extend our sympathy to her family and community, and to all her colleagues at COIAB.

❗ Last week, 20 Native Communities in the Loreto region of the Peruvian Amazon received land titles to their collectively held lands during a ceremony in the Native Community of Centro Arenal. ✊ Of these 20 Native Communities, 4 of them received land titling assistance through the Center's Indigenous Lands Initiative Project in partnership with the Inter-Ethnic Association for the Development of the Peruvian Amazon (AIDESEP). These communities are: Nuevo Clavero, Nuevo Tarma - Río Ucayali, San Vicente de Paul, and Villa Buen Jesús de Paz. 👏 This work was made possible thanks to the collaborative efforts and coordination between our partners AIDESEP and the Regional Organization of the Indigenous Peoples of the East (ORPIO) and the Regional Management of Agrarian Development and Irrigation of Loreto (GERDAGRI-L). We are honored to have been part of this important process and are excited to continue titling indigenous lands in the Peruvian Amazon. Stay tuned for more! Titulación Yá!
