The agony and ecstasy of scaling generative AI solutions. We have had some success with deploying secure and reliable systems that incorporate LLMs. One of the shocks we had was that what is cheap in the pilot phase became hugely expensive at scale: those tokens can really add up. Like, add up to a whole lot of compute expense. We had to come up with multiple ways to make our complex system faster and cheaper while simultaneously improving the user experience and ensuring accurate output. Honestly, it kind of hurt.
