Happy New Water Year! October 1st marks the beginning of a new water year, which tracks the natural water cycle. Each water year spans from October 1st to September 30th, a critical timeframe for IEUA as it aligns our monitoring and management efforts with the natural hydrological cycle. This period is essential for assessing precipitation and streamflow, which directly influences our local supply initiatives. Understanding the water year allows us to better predict and manage water resources, ensuring sustainable groundwater levels and effective wastewater treatment throughout the region. The ability to adapt our operations to annual variations in water availability safeguards water quality and supports long-term environmental health. From all of us at IEUA, happy New Water Year!

Exciting news for our water education programs! 💧 Earlier this month, External Affairs Specialist II, Hazel Ceron, attended a two-day seminar on behalf of IEUA with water education leaders across California, hosted by the Department of Water Resources (DWR). Coordinators explored strategic partnerships and curriculum enhancements and took part in immersive site visits across Northern California, including participating in mock school tours, discussing public outreach best practices, and designing water education center exhibitions. We’re eager to implement innovative strategies to enhance our K-12 programs and cultivate a new generation of water-wise citizens! Thank you to the DWR’s Public Affairs Office for organizing this valuable event. Stay tuned for updates on our new educational initiatives! #WaterEducation #IEUAwater #SustainableFuture #CommunityEngagement

In fact, IEUA maintains eight disaster sheds across the Agency, with the largest being our Headquarters/RP-5 shed (the star of the photo). This National Preparedness Month, we encourage you to prep like a pro—because readiness isn’t just about “stuff,” it’s about safety.
