About us
The Metropolitan Water District of Southern California is a cooperative of 26 cities and water agencies serving nearly 19 million people in six counties. The district imports water from the Colorado River and Northern California to supplement local supplies, and helps its members to develop increased water conservation, recycling, storage and other resource-management programs. Today is National Disability Independence Day, which marks the anniversary of the signing of the Americans with Disabilities Act into law by President George H.W. Bush on July 26, 1990. To honor this important law and to celebrate our workers with disabilities, we are sharing a quote by Judith Heumann (Dec. 18, 1947 – March 4, 2023), American disability rights activist who is known as the "Mother of the Disability Rights Movement". #NationalDisabilityIndependenceDay #2024

Proud to celebrate the future of Metropolitan on #NationalInternDay. This summer we're honored to host interns, including those participating in our Engineering Co-Op internship program, in partnership with California State Polytechnic University-Pomona, and the Coro Southern California 2024 Youth Fellows Program. The three Coro fellows recently “graduated” from our Education department's experiential learning program, while our 17 engineering interns will be with us until March 2025. Thanks to hands-on experiences at locations including Diamond Valley Lake, the #PureWaterSoCal facility and Weymouth Water Treatment plant, our interns are gaining valuable workplace knowledge. The future is in good hands with these aspiring civic leaders and engineers. #Metropolitan #CoroSoCal #WaterEducation #PublicService #EngineeringCoop

It was a privilege to host the Water Education for Latino Leaders (WELL) UnTapped 2024 Fellowship cohort this past weekend at our #PureWaterSoCal facility in Carson. The group of local elected leaders have set off on a six-month journey to learn how to make an impact on California water policy, while tackling water challenges in their communities.

We recently joined Director Anthony Fellow and Upper San Gabriel Valley Municipal Water District (Upper District) GM Tom Love for a community briefing on Metropolitan’s Climate Adaptation Master Plan for Water in Monrovia. Representatives from Upper District’s member agencies, Main San Gabriel Basin WaterMaster and elected officials learned how our #PureWaterSoCal program aligns with our #CAMP4W decision-making process. We will be continuing the conversation on CAMP4W during a virtual listening session with environmental groups on August 13. #UpperDistrict #MemberAgencies #InTheCommunity #CommunityEngagement #PureWaterSoCal #CAMP4W
