Overall U.S. auto sales are expected to weaken in the third quarter, according to industry experts. But electric vehicles are emerging as a bright spot for several automakers, and General Motors in particular is now staging a gradual yet strong comeback with a steady rise in its EV sales.

Seen scary EV fires that seem impossible to douse? LG Chem America, Inc. says it has a breakthrough solution for that. The tech giant, which supplies EV batteries to Tesla, Ford Motor Company and many others, says it's crafted a way to prevent the process where a battery can burn for hours by itself without oxygen.

Ford Motor Company thinks not enough car buyers understand the benefits of home EV charging (and it's probably right.) Its research says "46% of shoppers don’t know how home charging works in contrast to 92% of owners who find charging at home as easy as charging their phones." That's why it's now throwing in a Ford Charge Station Pro charger with an EV purchase or lease, plus free installation (minus a few special steps like trenching) and boosting its roadside assistance game in case owners run out of juice. Will this get more people into Ford EVs?

If you can make it here, you can make it anywhere, to quote both Frank Sinatra and Jay-Z. The same goes for EV charging. If it can be made to work well in America's toughest city for cars and driving, it can probably be successful elsewhere too. Brooklyn-based ride-hail start-up Revel—which operates neon blue Teslas and other EVs in the city—inaugurated on Thursday Manhattan’s first public fast charging station that will be open round the clock. Located by the FDR Drive freeway along the East River, the station is home to 10 320-kilowatt stalls made by Finnish manufacturer Kempower. It will serve all EVs with both NACS and CCS connectors.

Cox Automotive Inc. projects 1.3 million EVs will be sold in the U.S. this year, up slightly from 1.2 million in 2023. “The story is steady demand, a slower pace, yet record sales." Another bright spot is the used-EV market, which is still relatively tiny but is growing fast.

Local businesses are cashing in on charging station wait times. A new study from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology has confirmed what most of us have already suspected: EV charging stations aren't just better for the environment; they're also money printers. And it's not just charging network providers who see green—so do nearby shops.

It’s important to note that—and regular readers of this website are probably tired of hearing this—more and more people are buying electric vehicles. Some brands are seeing stellar numbers. It’s just that EVs aren’t flying off of the proverbial shelves like they did over the last couple of years. But as is usually the case, a couple of sad-looking numbers don’t tell the whole story, Tim Levin reports. Here's what's really going on: https://lnkd.in/eBmhQgep
