High performance demands the ability to take risks. Risk takes various forms – speaking up, having hard conversations, making tough decisions, trying new things, giving a presentation in front of others, and the list goes on. They all push us out of our comfort zones. They present the danger of judgment by others. That can be painful and that’s not a metaphor. Our experience of feeling socially judged by others is processed in the same part of the brain as physical pain! People avoid difficult Last 8% Situations because they lead to tension, anxiety, and uncertainty, which causes pain. When I started exploring emotional intelligence and my Last 8% moments, I realized I was sometimes making decisions based on who was going to scream loudest if they didn't get their way. I didn’t always make the best decision. I made the easiest decision to avoid the pain. You can read more about the neuroscience behind risk taking in this article: https://lnkd.in/ggkTknBr

Your Weekly Culture Tip to Win the Week When organizations prioritize immediate rewards and short-term results over long-term strategies and visions, employees become conditioned to focus on the tasks at hand rather than the broader picture, often leading to a lack of risk-taking, an inability to grow, and an overall resistance to change. This is what IHHP calls a Transactional Culture, and this type of culture sees growth stagnation and negative long-term outcomes. Keeping the long-term goals and visions of the organization at the heart of every operation ensures growth is possible and attainable. #Last8Percent #Culture

Where Does Culture Exist? On teams. Organizations often misunderstand where their culture primarily exists. As JP Pawliw-Fry and Bill Benjamin discussed, it primarily exists on teams. Once organizations understand this, transformation efforts can become more effective and impactful. #Culture #Last8Percent #Teams
