Thank you to Urgent Optimists, Jake Dunagan and Jane McGonigal for gathering us today as we begin to process this pivotal moment in our history and how future scenarios will be affected. This election highlights the significant of loss of trust in government and our democratic institutions (and media, science etc.) urging us to reflect on our own visions and space for agency. Key takeaways from the discussion include the importance of finding trusted allies, protecting people and civic institutions, and building alternatives. Let's continue to navigate these uncertain times with a focus on #futuresthinking and #hope. Institute for the Future Kelly Ellenz Stephen Shashoua Lena Tünkers

Come join us on Thurs, Dec 5 at 9am PT when we’ll talk to Alison Huppert, Director of Strategy and Quality Practices for Innovation, and Heather Hughes, Senior Vice President of Strategic Alignment, about why they started the YMCA’s popular signals club, how they get people to attend despite their busy schedules, and what advice they have for anyone else wanting to use foresight to excite people. https://buff.ly/48tty0N #IFTFForesightTalk #FutureReady #StrategicForesight #signalscanning

That’s a wrap! One week ago today, we began our Journey Through the Uncanny Valley with IFTF’s annual Ten-Year Forecast event, and what we learned together was insightful & surprising! One of our forecasts even became reality as we were presenting it: as we explored IFTF’s future of AI forecasts with the “AI Bestiary Foresight Toolkit” and provocative interactive experiences, Microsoft launched its autonomous AI agents as employees! You can become an IFTF Vantage partner to see the deeper learning and research into other varied perspectives on the Uncanny Valley, which will be released over the coming months. Thank you to our guest speakers, including Natalie Foster (author of “The Guarantee: Inside the Fight for America’s Next Economy”) and David Evan Harris (UC Berkeley, Business & Public Policy / Center for Equity, Gender, and Leadership). Thank you to our hosts Exploratorium and Tides for supporting our team and guests, in your beautiful spaces. #FutureReady #StrategicForesight #FutureofAI #IFTFTYF2024 Read a preview of the forecasts from the Uncanny Valley of AI and how to connect with Institute for the Future for more custom foresight research here: https://lnkd.in/gYcthQN7

Few organizations make me feel more *hopeful* about the future than community colleges. As anchor institutions, they will be key to navigating change in the next decade. Just wrapped up two wonderful days at Frederick Community College here in Frederick, Maryland. Grateful for the time together with the campus community & community leaders. A great continuation of our collaboration so far, in which many of my colleagues have gotten to meet FCC leaders through IFTF’s Foresight Essentials trainings. President Cheek, thank you for inviting the Institute for the Future team to take part!
