About us

The Institute of Governmental Studies, California’s longest-standing public policy research center, bridges civic engagement, nonpartisan expertise, and governance. Our cutting-edge research, public events, and nationally recognized IGS Poll inform and shape discussions about critical policy and political challenges facing California and the nation. Our student programming creates opportunities for students to train for careers in public service and to reach across political and cultural divides, serving as a counterforce to the increasing polarization that dominates American politics.

  • Join the Latina Futures 2050 Lab on Thursday, September 19th, for an insightful discussion on the significant political impact of women of color in the 2024 general election. This panel, featuring leading scholars like our IGS Co-Director and Associate Professor of Sociology, Dr. G. Cristina Mora, will explore how these powerful voters are shaping the political landscape through their unique experiences and intersectional identities. As the 2024 election approaches, understanding the complexities of voter behavior in communities of color is more crucial than ever. Don’t miss out on this conversation about the evolving dynamics of American democracy and the influential role of women of color in driving change. #LatinaFutures2050 #2024Election #PoliticalPower #Intersectionality

As the school year is right around the corner I wish to reflect on the great internship that I had this summer. This summer I had the opportunity to work for the Public Policy Institute of California as a Research and Government Affairs Intern. I learned the importance of not only government affairs but also how valuable nonpartisan research is to informing the political sphere. While I had many tasks during the internship, one of them was producing a blog post about California’s job growth in different regions which you can read here! https://lnkd.in/gG9rrGDr I want to thank Julien Lafortune and Alexia Cortez for being amazing supervisors as they both were always available to answer my questions and provided me as many opportunities as they could. This internship was a part of Berkeley’s Cal in Sacramento program would not have been possible without the work and dedication of Megan Collins and Christine Trost, both of whom I am immensely grateful to. This has been an amazing summer and has strengthened my passion for research!
