  • ISBH Leadership completes the Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt Certification Training on November 13th and 14th, 2024 Several members of ISBH's leadership team, including CEO Sam Shafer, completed the Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt Certification Training. This intensive 16-hour program equipped our leadership with essential strategies and tools to improve efficiency, boost productivity, and enhance responsiveness in our client care service systems. The training was coordinated by Al Sullivan, Founder and CEO of Inspirus Consulting, Inc., and facilitated by Gerald Taylor, MBA, a certified Lean Six Sigma Master Black Belt. Gerald’s vast expertise spans multiple industries, and his work includes authoring Lean Six Sigma Service Excellence: A Guide to Green Belt Certification and Bottom-Line Improvement. This training is part of ISBH’s strategic plan to foster smart growth, enhance organizational decision-making, and align operations with our core commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI). • Meet our friend, Johari Sharp. Johari M. Sharp (She/Her) is an accomplished speaker, author, and thought leader dedicated to mental health advocacy. With over 20 years of experience with the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), she has devoted her career to supporting individuals affected by mental illness and advancing mental health awareness. A Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Independent Chemical Dependency Counselor (LICDC), Spiritual Integrated Therapist (SIP), and Chaplain, Johari brings diverse expertise to her work. She has also led summer workshops at renowned institutions, including Harvard, Johns Hopkins, UCLA, and Columbia University. Beyond her work with NAMI, Johari has contributed in numerous formal ways to ISBH, offering her skills and insights as a speaker, program developer, and mental health advocate. She continues to play an essential role in ISBH’s mission to foster wellness and resilience in the communities we serve. We are deeply grateful for her unwavering dedication, which uplifts and inspires both her colleagues and the broader community. Her personal journey is equally inspiring. As a single mother of three, Johari has faced her own mental health challenges, including living with Bipolar disorder, hospitalizations, and severe anxiety. These experiences drive her passion for social justice and community collaboration, with a focus on issues like homelessness, poverty, and racial equity. Through her workshops, Johari aims to empower others to seek support, prioritize self-care, find connection in their mental wellness journeys, and hold onto hope. We are so grateful for her.

  • On October 24th, the Meigs County Family and Children First Council hosted a successful No Wrong Door event at the Blakslee Center! This informative day reviewed a range of programs and services in Meigs County, with panel discussions and interactive sessions on collaborative approaches to various scenarios. Local agencies, including ISBH, participated with resource tables to share valuable information. We were well-represented by our OhioRISE, Behavioral Health, and Help Me Grow teams. A big thank you to Yvonne Coleman, Lizzy Jones Ramirez, and Melanie Sheets for their role on the planning committee in making this day of collaboration possible. We’re proud to be a part of this amazing community!

  • November is Homelessness Awareness Month, a time to reflect on and respond to the critical challenges faced by those without stable housing. ISBH is committed to supporting individuals experiencing homelessness across our 21-county region in Ohio. Homelessness affects more than 580,000 people annually in the U.S., according to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). Additionally, 26 million people, or 14% of the nation's population, have reported experiencing self-defined homelessness at some point in their lives. In our local communities, these figures represent hundreds of families and individuals who strive for safety, stability, and hope. ISBH addresses these challenges through comprehensive programs that connect individuals to housing support, behavioral health services, and essential resources. Our belief is rooted in the understanding that housing is healthcare—providing stability is the foundation for overall well-being. • Congratulations to Shannon Brown and Clayton Fraunfelter for achieving their I-FAST certifications! Shannon Brown, Program Manager for Intensive Home-Based Treatment (IHBT) and Integrative Family and Systems Treatment (I-FAST), has achieved her I-FAST certification, qualifying her to conduct supervisions and foster team development across Southeast Ohio. Shannon leads IHBT in three key regions: *Region 1: Fairfield, Franklin, Pickaway, & Ross *Region 2: Athens, Morgan, Muskingum, Washington, & Perry *Region 3: Gallia, Hocking, Jackson, Meigs, & Vinton This milestone is instrumental in strengthening ISBH’s commitment to intensive, family-focused care across these communities.
