Huge thanks to the Dept of Interior Interior Business Center in Denver, for hosting the Shared Services Provider Network this week - and, especially for inviting Office of Management and Budget, U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM), and GSA to participate! Personally, I always learn so much from these excursions out of the office & outside the beltway.
It was great to hear first hand some of the challenges and opportunities our payroll and HR service providers face, as well as the optimism as they strive for excellence in customer service and in enabling agencies' mission delivery across the government.
It doesn't often get much mention, unless something goes wrong... but, these are the people who GET US PAID, and never miss a beat, even when faced with significant obstacles. Like government shutdowns, acquisition & integration complexities, and old & relatively inflexible IT systems. They are doing an awesome job, and deserve a big round of applause 👏🏽
I'm excited to partner with the SSPN, to align the vision, actions, and resources in a way that enables modernization, an improved employee experience, and more efficient & effective service delivery.
Following the meeting, I was lucky to spend a 1/2 day with the great Jeff Conn, from the Colorado Federal Executive Board - part of the Federal Executive Boards: Central Region! Julie Bednar is a double super star, as she is not only leading the Interior Business Center, but is also on-deck to Chair the COFEB, alongside her vice chair Erik Amundson from HUD. I'm looking forward to seeing what the Colorado & Central Region are able to accomplish under the new FEB structure... it sounds like they have a lot of great ideas, following a strategic visioning session last week. Of course, Jeff was a great host, showing me around the Denver Federal Center in Lakewood. [Next time, I'm hoping for a tour of the NSF Ice Core Lab, located in the same building! 😃 ]
