InterMed is delighted to welcome Adam Owen, MD to the organization. The arrival of Dr. Owen brings a new Interventional Pain Medicine specialty to InterMed, adding to a robust offering of services and specialties for InterMed patients. Dr. Owen will be based out of InterMed’s 50 Foden Road location. “It is truly a blessing to be a part of a physician group such as InterMed,” says Adam Owen, MD. “To have the opportunity to care for the community that I grew up with here in Maine is an honor.” Dr. Owen grew up in Durham, Maine and attended undergraduate and graduate school at Andrews University in Berrien Springs, Michigan. He earned his medical degree from Loma Linda University School of Medicine in Loma Linda, California, where he also completed his residency in anesthesiology and fellowship in pain medicine. Interventional pain medicine focuses on diagnosing and treating chronic pain using minimally invasive techniques. Instead of relying solely on medications, it employs procedures like nerve blocks, epidural injections and radiofrequency ablation to target the source of pain directly. The goal is to provide relief, improve function and enhance the quality of life for patients with various pain conditions. The scope of practice for InterMed Interventional Pain Medicine includes in-office consultations and treatment options including nerve blocks, epidural injections and radiofrequency ablations at InterMed’s Ambulatory Surgery Center.

Middle age can bring a unique set of stressors that often get brushed off as just part of "going through menopause." From career pressures to family dynamics, these challenges can impact your well-being in significant ways. It's important to remember that you don’t have to navigate this journey alone. Speaking with your healthcare provider can help you better understand what you’re experiencing and explore effective coping strategies. #Menopause #MentalHealthMatters #TalkToYourProvider

Today is National Mammography Day. National Mammography Day is celebrated annually on the third Friday of October as part of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. This day is a reminder of the importance of regular mammograms and breast screenings to detect breast cancer early. Mammograms are the best way to find breast cancer early and can detect it up to three years before it can be felt. Women should begin scheduling their annual mammograms at the age of 40. Detecting breast cancer at its earliest stage is crucial to survival. Having an annual mammogram is an important first step in diagnosing breast cancer. Schedule your mammogram today!

Happy Ultrasound Awareness Month! Medical Ultrasound Awareness Month (MUAM) is celebrated every October to raise awareness of medical ultrasound and the role of sonographers in healthcare. The month also provides an opportunity for ultrasound professionals to educate the public and celebrate their profession. Ultrasound utilizes sound waves with frequencies higher than the upper audible limit of the human ear and is measured in hertz (Hz). In the early 1970s, the use of ultrasound (high frequency mechanical energy waves, like sound waves only with a higher frequency) as a means of creating images of the abdomen, small parts, and pelvis was introduced at radiology meetings and in the literature. Ultrasound represented a major advance in diagnostic imaging because it allowed the creation of cross-sectional images without the use of ionizing radiation. Here at InterMed, our general Ultrasound department performs approximately 9,000 exams per year. #CareWithoutCompromise
