About us
The International Association of Human Trafficking Investigators (IAHTI) is a not-for profit organization that is proud to be the international leader in human trafficking education. We work with law enforcement, prosecutors, analysts and victim service providers throughout the world to provide the most up-to-date human trafficking training, investigative techniques and technology. Our training is conducted by experts who have real world human trafficking investigation experience, whereas other educators can only teach what they’ve learned from a manual. We are experts connecting human trafficking investigators with the knowledge, tools and resources to effectively reach more victims and prosecute their traffickers. What makes IAHTI different from other human trafficking organizations is that all of our trainers are active or retired city, county, state or federal human trafficking investigators. Rather than sharing conceptual knowledge based in a handbook, IAHTI’s trainers bring real-world experience gained in the field. This unique perspective results in investigators who are better informed and better prepared to identify, charge and close human trafficking cases around the world.

What does labor trafficking look like in the United States? It often targets vulnerable individuals, especially migrant workers, who are forced to endure severe conditions in industries like agriculture, construction, and domestic service. These workers face threats, fraud, and coercion, making escape nearly impossible. Signs to watch for include: 🔵Poor living conditions: overcrowded housing and lack of basic amenities. Long working hours with little to no pay: Excessive labor without fair compensation. Restricted freedom: Controlled movements and confiscated personal documents. 🔵Fear of authorities: Threats of deportation or harm if they seek help. Why are migrant workers at higher risk? 🔵Language barriers: Difficulty communicating and understanding their rights. 🔵Economic desperation: Limited job opportunities and the need to support families. 🔵Lack of legal protection: Undocumented status or unawareness of legal resources. Recognizing these signs is crucial for prevention and support. At IAHTI, we combat labor trafficking by equipping law enforcement with vital intelligence and resources, fostering collaboration across sectors, and raising awareness in communities. Through training and advocacy, we empower agencies to identify and assist victims while dismantling trafficking networks. Together, we can drive meaningful change and ensure a safer future for all workers

Human trafficking manifests in various forms, affecting countless lives across the world. Do you know what the most common types of trafficking look like? Labor trafficking involves using force, fraud, or coercion to exploit individuals for labor, particularly targeting vulnerable migrant workers who often face severe working conditions. Sex trafficking coerces victims, including children, into commercial sex acts through threats, manipulation, or violence, often preying on marginalized populations. Familial trafficking, an often-hidden crime, occurs when family members exploit their own relatives for labor or sex, using manipulation and control, particularly affecting vulnerable children and individuals in abusive households. Organ trafficking, while less common in the U.S., involves the illegal removal and sale of human organs, usually targeting impoverished individuals. This form of trafficking is more prevalent in areas like South Asia and Eastern Europe. Recognizing these types of trafficking is crucial to helping protect victims and prevent exploitation.

In the complex landscape of human trafficking, it is crucial to understand the methods used to lure individuals into exploitation. Traffickers may use deceitful tactics like offering fake job opportunities, posing as romantic partners, or using social media to befriend and gain the trust of a potential victim. At IAHTI, we work to expose these manipulative tactics and equip law enforcement with the intelligence, tools, and resources they need to identify traffickers and prevent exploitation before it begins. Through advanced technology and collaboration, we aim to disrupt trafficking networks and protect vulnerable individuals from falling prey to these dangers

Behind every statistic is a human being—a life torn apart by exploitation. In 2022, more than 10,000 trafficking cases were reported in the US, with more than 16,000 victims. These aren’t just numbers—they’re people with hopes, dreams, and families. At IAHTI, we’re dedicated to giving law enforcement the tools they need to take down traffickers and protect the most vulnerable.
