  • Don't miss this limited edition shirt! OBEY and the International Center of Photography have teamed up together to offer a shirt featuring photographer Feng Li’s Mirror Girl—available exclusively at ICP’s shop (84 Ludlow St) while supplies last. Feng Li’s work is currently on view alongside 33 other street photographers’ images in ICP’s exhibition, We are Here: Scenes from the Streets in New York. All funds raised by the shirt will be donated to ICP, registered 501(c)(3) non-profit. This is only the beginning of a larger collaboration between OBEY and ICP—slated to launch early 2025. "Photography has played a huge role in my artistic development and creative process, and I'm happy that OBEY is working closely with ICP on a series of upcoming projects. Their dedication to photography and the arts, as well as the opportunity they provide through their courses, workshops and community projects, are an important way to support the development of the next generation of photographers and visual artists.” - Shepard Fairey Model: Marz Photography: m. iamartino + Anna Selle

  • One month left! The priority deadline for ICP's Documentary Practice: Visual Storytelling Online program is October 20. Send this over to a friend who is looking to hone their skills in photography and storytelling. These images were created by Doc Online '23 alum Partha Sengupta, during his time in the program. Partha's project Matuas: The Undocumented Indians focuses on low-caste Hindu refugees who fled from East Pakistan due to religious discrimination during India's partition and Bangladesh's liberation struggle. Matuas remain stateless as they continue the fight to be recognized as Indian nationals. In Doc Practice Online, Partha was able to work on this project and study with ICP faculty while remaining embedded in this community. • Leon Levinstein was born today, September 20, 1910 in Buckhannon, West Virginia. He attended high school at Baltimore City College (1923–27) and college at Maryland Institute of Arts, Baltimore (1927–28). Shortly after his discharge from the army in October 1945, he moved to New York City to work as an art director in his cousin’s advertising agency. In the 1950s and 60s, his work was published extensively in major magazines such as Popular Photography and U.S. Camera Annual, and won Popular Photography 1952's International Photography Contest. In 1956, Levinstein exhibited at Helen Gee's Limelight Gallery, the only solo show during his lifetime. Levinstein's photographs were included in nine group shows at the Museum of Modern Art. Levinstein rarely worked on assignment and never made photography books. He earned his living as a graphic designer, not as a professional photographer, and generally remained aloof from the art world (he received a Guggenheim Fellowship in 1975). This lack of broader recognition did nothing to slow him down, and he continued to photograph throughout his life. Text by Kirsti Svenning Images: 1: Leon Levinstein, [Young man standing on steps smoking a cigar, New York], 1950s, Gift of Caryl and Israel Englander, 2014 (2014.57.25) 2: Leon Levinstein, No title, 1967, Lower East Side, New York, Gift of Stuart E.
