Let's make immigration detention history
About us
We envision a world where immigration detention no longer exists. And we work with everyone to make that vision a reality. We believe people should be able to live freely while they await the outcome of their immigration case, and we advocate for the human rights and dignity of everyone impacted by immigration detention. IDC is solutions-focused, meaning that we work with lived experience leaders, governments, decision-makers, civil society, UN agencies and other actors to deliver alternatives that benefit migrants, communities and society at large. We are truly global, uniting a coalition of civil society organisations, community groups and individuals from all over the world. While the movement spans continents, we all have a clear purpose: to reduce and ultimately end immigration detention and to promote alternatives.

🌍 It’s amazing to see the Global Compact on Migration (#GCM) put the voices of civil society front and center at the 2nd Africa Regional Review in Addis Ababa, #Ethiopia This milestone highlights the power of collaboration and the impact of advocacy. One of the most encouraging outcomes is the inclusion of alternatives to detention as key recommendations, with member states committing to explore and implement these humane approaches. 👏🏾 This progress underscores the importance of partnerships and the critical role that civil society organizations play in shaping policies that uphold the rights and dignity of migrants. Let’s continue the work, hold each other accountable, and push forward for a future where migration policies are truly inclusive and rights-based. 💡 On #WorldMentalHealthDay, we're highlighting the hidden mental health crisis unfolding behind the walls of immigration detention. JP was four years old when she and her mother were seized in a dawn raid and taken to Yarl's Wood detention centre in the UK. Her subsequent experiences demonstrate why alternatives to detention are so needed: 👉 https://lnkd.in/eC5dxgpM

I want to extend my appreciation to the Council of Europe for inviting me to attend the 2nd International Conference on Migrant Smuggling in #Strasbourg,France 10-11th September 2024. It was an invaluable experience to engage with global stakeholders on such a critical issue. I had the opportunity to share civil society perspectives from #Africa and was honoured to share my sentiments which called for prioritizing international cooperation while continuing to protect victims and respect the human rights of migrants and refugees.
