One of the most encouraging outcomes is the inclusion of alternatives to detention as key recommendations, with member states committing to explore and implement these humane approaches. 👏🏾 This progress underscores the importance of partnerships and the critical role that civil society organizations play in shaping policies that uphold the rights and dignity of migrants. I want to extend my appreciation to the Council of Europe for inviting me to attend the 2nd International Conference on Migrant Smuggling in #Strasbourg,France 10-11th September 2024. It was an invaluable experience to engage with global stakeholders on such a critical issue. I had the opportunity to share civil society perspectives from #Africa and was honoured to share my sentiments which called for prioritizing international cooperation while continuing to protect victims and respect the human rights of migrants and refugees.
