A recent study in JAMA indicates donating a kidney is safer than ever. There are more than 90,000 people in the U.S. waiting for a kidney transplant, and awareness and education are needed to increase living donations. Today, we recognize #WorldMentalHealthDay and the importance of advancing mental health education, awareness, and advocacy. People with kidney disease are at least 3x more likely to have depression, and depression is linked to accelerated progression of kidney disease. Addressing depression and other behavioral health concerns is a first step to providing effective care for people with chronic kidney disease.
