We were thrilled to host Jayne Chan, Invest HK’s Head of Startups in NYC and Chicago last week. We spoke to a variety of a startup ecosystem players including VCs, universities, corporate innovation labs, accelerators and of course, founders, and discussed ways to foster collaboration between the startup ecosystems of Hong Kong and the U.S. Among the many meetings, we had two great events: In NYC: Hong Kong Meets NYC – A Startup Ecosystem Exchange, with David Yakobovitch In Chicago: Innovating Across Borders, with Xiaochen Z. Always a privilege meeting so many interesting people, learning about the work they do and informing them about the opportunities in the startup ecosystem in Hong Kong. Some facts that resonated in many meetings: 💥 Hong Kong punches above its weight. 12 unicorns in last 10 years, >5K startups today, diverse sectors and founders– not bad for a city with just 7.4 million people. 💥 The level of public and private sector support inc. government financial support, public/private partnerships, such as matching VC investments, R&D capital/talent subsidies and many more. 💥 Longer-term opportunities around the upcoming Hong Kong-Shenzhen Innovation and Technology Park – which looks to build synergies between the Hong Kong and Shenzhen startup and tech ecosystems. The week couldn’t have been possible without the generosity of a few key organizations and people, and we wish to relay our gratitude to: Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office, New York, Hong Kong Trade Development Council, HKSTP - Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation, Savills North America, Polsinelli, 1871, Hong Kong Association of New York, Hong Kong Business Association of the Midwest, Daniel Lo, Albert Lam, MSc, Jessie Lam, Alexandra Debow, Christine Barragan, Minesh Pore, Baruch Deutsch We look forward to building more connections between the U.S. and Hong Kong startup ecosystems. Please reach out to us via email or DM if we can be of help. Invest Hong Kong|StartmeupHK

Some weeks back, we had the privilege of hosting Minesh Pore, CEO of BuyHive to talk about Hong Kong and the Future of Global Sourcing. One of the many insights Minesh shared was about the deep sourcing talent pool in Hong Kong, and how it allows his company to provide global sourcing expertise from a single location. #HongKong #Sourcing #Talent Invest Hong Kong Hong Kong Association of New York https://lnkd.in/eg3XsH9X
