The U.S. titanium supply chain is fragmented, high risk, and vulnerable to supply shocks. Titanium supply is constrained and in a rising price environment with the average price of semi-finished titanium products rising 14% in 2023. These supply shocks are the result of Russia's invasion of Ukraine, raw material price increases and disruptions, and an increasing demand for titanium. Additionally, the U.S. has no domestic primary titanium production and is reliant on foreign nations for titanium metal needed to meet demand from a variety of industries. IperionX can provide a domestic titanium supply chain from titanium metal to production of finished parts. We have the potential to bring about the Titanium Age with low-cost, low-carbon titanium metal technologies and provide the U.S. with the titanium needed for critical applications in industries including aerospace, defense, medical, and more.

The IperionX team is currently scaling commercial production at our Virginia Titanium Manufacturing Campus, which comprises the Titanium Production Facility (TPF) and the Advanced Manufacturing Center (AMC). At the TPF, are recycling titanium scrap into high-quality titanium metal powders, and at the AMC we are forging and printing titanium metal powders into high-quality titanium metal products. We have been producing high-quality titanium with our award-winning technologies for over 2+ years. Our titanium technologies can deliver low-cost, high-strength, sustainable titanium production, and could bring about an Age of Titanium!

IperionX’s Advanced Manufacturing Center (AMC) in Virginia is focused upon transforming titanium metal powder produced via our breakthrough, low carbon and fully circular titanium technologies into high quality titanium components and near net shape products, including via additive manufacturing / 3D printing. IperionX has recently installed Laser Powder Bed Fusion (LPBF) additive manufacturing capacity at the AMC, including two SLM280 machines and one EOS M400-4 machine, enabling us to deliver finished and semi-finished products to customers in advanced industries including consumer electronics, aerospace, automotive and defense. LPBF uses lasers to selectively melt titanium metal powders in a powder bed, and involves repeatedly spreading thin layers of metal powders on a build platform and melting them using a focused laser. The physical properties of LPBF printed products are as good or better than parts created through traditional manufacturing, such as forging, and generate significantly less waste than subtractive manufacturing processes. Additionally, IperionX can further reduce waste compared to conventional titanium manufacturing processes as unused titanium metal powder—and even scrap titanium metal parts—can be upcycled through our patented titanium deoxygenation processes back to high quality, 100% recycled titanium metal powder.

IperionX (NASDAQ: IPX, ASX: IPX) is pleased to announce the successful commissioning of the Hydrogen Assisted Metallothermic Reduction furnace, marking the first titanium de-oxygenation production run at the Titanium Manufacturing Campus in Virginia, U.S.A. This first titanium de-oxygenation production run represents a key technological milestone for IperionX that underpins a breakthrough +60x increase in titanium production capacity. Produced entirely from 100% scrap titanium (Ti-6Al-4V alloy, Grade 5 titanium), quality assessments confirmed a large reduction in oxygen levels from 3.42% to below 0.07%, far exceeding the ASTM standard requirement of 0.2% for Grade 5 titanium. #IPX #titanium

IperionX's patented low-carbon Green Rutile (TM) mineral enrichment technology can upgrade lower-grade ilmenite titanium minerals into a high-grade, higher-value titanium 'synthetic rutile' product. Green Rutile has been successfully proven at bench scale, with pilot scale production design now underway. This process could also unlock value with potential critical co-products such as LFP battery feedstock or high-purity iron powder. Low-carbon Green Rutile product has been successfully tested by potential customers in Japan and the U.S. IperionX's Green Rutile technology has the potential to add significant value to the Titan Project in West Tennessee.

The IperionX Advanced Manufacturing Center in Virginia will utilize angular and spherical titanium powders from the Titanium Production Facility to manufacture a wide range of low-cost and high-performance titanium products using powder metallurgy, HSPT forging and additive manufacturing including 3D printing. One of the many methods that IperionX will work to produce custom components for potential customers is wire EDM machining. Wire EDM (which stands for electrical discharge machining) works by sending an electrical charge through submerged metal components to form the desired shape of the part. It enables the production of precise and complex designs and shapes that are otherwise difficult to produce using processes such as CNC machining. A wire as small as 0.004 inches and up to 0.013 inches in diameter can be used to cut through a variety of materials, including titanium metal. The average strand of human hair is approximately 0.003 inches in diameter. By using wire EDM, material nearly as thin as a strand of hair is leveraged to cut through extremely durable metals, such as titanium, to produce parts for industries including automotive, medical, and aerospace.
