Partnering with Mission Bit to Empower Youth in STEM! We are excited to announce our collaboration with Mission Bit, an organization dedicated to providing free computer science education to high school students in the Bay Area. Through this partnership, we have enriched our SF STEM Academy program with valuable STEM-based learning and opportunities. Our SF STEM Academy strives to impact youth by providing weekly workshops throughout the school year centered around STEM curriculum, academic support, college access, workforce development, and wellness. This summer, Mission Bit has been instrumental in helping us place students in 8-10 week internships at local San Francisco STEM-based businesses. These internships provide our students with practical job experience, exposure to various working environments, and skill development. Most importantly, our students are paid for their time, ensuring that financial barriers do not hinder their learning and growth. Our collaboration with Mission Bit helps us achieve our program goals: Creating meaningful career experiences for future aspirations in STEM-related fields. Providing active practical job training and workforce development. Offering exposure to different working environments and people, helping students develop a better sense of themselves and the world around them. Ensuring continuous feedback on working practices and helping students develop collaborative group work skills. Thank you, Mission Bit, for your dedication to empowering youth and supporting our mission. Together, we are making a significant impact on the lives of students from Balboa High School and Galileo High School, and we look forward to continuing this impactful partnership. #JCYC #MissionBit #STEMEducation #YouthEmpowerment #WorkforceDevelopment #TechEducation #Inspiration #CommunityImpact

A photo recap of the 2024 Excellence in Education Award, accompanied by a thank you message from Emalyn Lapus, Administrative Director of JCYC College Access Programs. “On May 23rd, the JCYC College Access Programs celebrated its inaugural Excellence in Education Awards Ceremony. We came together to celebrate 45 years of commitment to service at our schools. Throughout this journey, our collective efforts and dedication have given our students from low-income and first-generation backgrounds the opportunities to succeed. I want to express my deepest appreciation to our sponsors, donors, and guests for their generosity and support of this inaugural event. Your contributions were pivotal in creating a memorable evening celebrating our honorees’ resilience, dedication, and academic achievements alongside their families, supporters, mentors, and friends. I want to give a special thank you to our keynote speaker, Sandy Walia of U.S. Bank, for her inspiring words on the transformative power of education and community support. Her encouragement for students to embrace their unique challenges and opportunities resonated deeply, highlighting the crucial role of JCYC College Access Programs in providing unwavering support to our youth. The partnership with U.S. Bank plays a crucial role in ensuring that JCYC’s College Access Programs can maintain high-quality academic and educational services for first-generation students while also expanding our program’s reach to more students. I also want to express my appreciation for the dedication and support of the JCYC Board of Directors, the JCYC Leadership Staff, and especially the JCYC College Access Team, whose efforts made the event a success. I eagerly anticipate the opportunity to reconnect with everyone soon.” Sincerely, Emalyn Lapus, Administrative Director JCYC College Access
