  • Beyond Columbus: Celebrate Indigenous Peoples’ Day On this day, we honor the history, cultures, and resilience of Native American Peoples, whose presence in the Americas dates back tens of thousands of years, long before Columbus. As we shift away from the colonial narrative, today marks a powerful opportunity to recognize the lasting impact of colonization while celebrating the vibrancy of Indigenous communities. Indigenous Peoples’ Day is more than just a counter-celebration to Columbus Day. It's a moment to acknowledge the truth: the arrival of Columbus was a starting point for centuries of violence, displacement, and cultural erasure. Instead, we choose to celebrate the enduring contributions and strength of Indigenous Peoples, whose resilience continues to shape the cultural fabric of our country. What can you do today? 1. Learn Indigenous Histories & Cultures: Explore books, documentaries, and attend local events to better understand Indigenous perspectives. 2. Support Indigenous-Owned Businesses: Buy from Indigenous artisans, donate to causes, and amplify their voices on social media. 3. Engage in Land Acknowledgment: Reflect on the Indigenous lands you reside on and acknowledge their significance. 4. Advocate for Indigenous Rights: Whether through contacting legislators or raising awareness, stand up for Indigenous causes, such as land rights and health equity. By celebrating Indigenous Peoples’ Day, we honor the past and advocate for a future rooted in justice, equity, and mutual respect. Let’s commit to continuous learning, supporting Indigenous communities, and challenging ourselves to take action today and every day. #nationalindegiouspeoplesday #indigenouspeoplesday #jeffersoncenter

  • Our Withdrawal Management and SUD teams were out at yesterday’s Substance Use Services and Harm Reduction Resources event, where we distributed Narcan and provided education and treatment information to 40 individuals.
