Thank you to the Jewish Community Foundation of Los Angeles for the meaningful gift to support our work with teachers and students. At Facing History, we believe that when we create spaces of belonging, we are able to orient ourselves with a sense of purpose in the world around us to become relationship builders, responsible decision makers, and active participants in our society. #facinghistory Jewish Community Foundation of Los Angeles

We're pleased to share a new article by Naomi Strongin, Vice President of the Center for Designed Philanthropy, entitled "Directing Philanthropy in the Shadow of October 7" published today in the Jewish Journal. Naomi says, "Each one of us has the individual capacity to make a difference, turn tragedy into action, and, in the process, meet the urgent needs of the moment."

We are delighted to share that in 2023, together with our donors, we distributed a remarkable $183 million to over 2,500 nonprofits. In addition, in response to the tragedy of October 7, we made more than 1,000 grants amounting to more than $10 million for Israel emergency relief efforts. We were also able to take care of our community here at home, awarding $5 million in institutional grants.

"Combatting Antisemitism: Are We Doing it Wrong?" We recently hosted a powerful event about combatting rising antisemitism, featuring a panel with Leah Soibel, Founder and CEO of Fuente Latina, and Matt Williams, VP of the Center for Antisemitism Research at ADL. Moderated by our CEO, Rabbi Aaron Lerner, it was a spirited, deep dive into the unfortunate reality that despite all of our efforts to combat it, antisemitism is on the rise. The speakers described the many challenges facing the Jewish community as we recognize the pressing need to shift strategies for a new generation. They explored why our efforts seem unsuccessful today and how we can use data to inform practical approaches moving forward. There was a consensus that if we strive to coordinate our research-based efforts—and if donors focus their giving on the most effective, high-impact initiatives—there is hope for improved results in the future.
