On 10.27, JFCS and others volunteered in memory of those we lost on October 27, 2018. We sorted donations and created warm letters and posters to welcome new immigrant and refugee families to Pittsburgh. Thank you to everyone who volunteered their afternoon to help, we truly appreciate it!

For OCD Awareness month in October, we sat down with Rachel, a Psychotherapist in the Counseling Department, and we gained insights into Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD). In this video, Rachel helps us understand the differences between anxiety and OCD.

Yesterday, the community gathered together to remember the 11 lives that were lost 6 years ago on October 27. Thank you, Trib Live, for this heartfelt article about the community coming together to mourn, heal, and remember their lives. In addition to the community members gathering together, local agencies and businesses were there to offer support. The article reads, "Earlier in the day, volunteers hoping to welcome immigrants to the city sorted donations and crafted welcome cards and posters with Jewish Family and Community Services. In another, felted hearts were created either to adorn the ceremony in the Squirrel Hill Jewish Community Center or to deliver to friends, family, loved ones, neighbors or strangers." We are honored and happy to announce that our Youth Services program, UpStreet, was awarded a grant from the Staunton Farm Foundation. Featured in the article is a photo of UpStreet's own, Alliyah one of the youth psychotherapists. The article reads, "The Jewish Family & Community Services’ UpStreet program, which opened its first physical location last year and saw 90% of nearly 200 teens and families return for drop-in support, will formalize its practices, strengthen its operation model and develop a sustainability strategy." The High Holiday Food Drive is underway at the JFCS Squirrel Hill Food Pantry and donations are being dropped off! Our total is currently at 2,306 pounds of food, toiletries, and more! Not only are we collecting food, but we have received donations of soap, toothpaste, paper towels, and more.

The office is closed today, October 24 in celebration of Shemini Atzeret. We will reopen tomorrow, October 25 at 9 am.
