In September, The Johns Hopkins Hospital welcomed congressional staff members and agency officials for an immersive, hands-on experience designed to highlight the critical impact of federal investment in graduate medical education (GME). The annual event showcases our central role in training the next generation of clinicians and researchers. During the visit, participants engaged with clinicians, trainees and medical experts, gaining a comprehensive understanding of current trends and future challenges in health care workforce development. Attendees participated in a variety of immersive activities, including emergency response skills, CPR and lifesaving interventions for young patients, robot-assisted and minimally invasive surgery, live birthing simulations and airway management techniques, critical for saving lives.

"We recently partnered with Baltimore City Public schools to provide free physical exams for 212 student-athletes. The initiative aimed to remove barriers to healthcare access, ensuring students are ready for the sports season. Held at the Watkins Outpatient Center, the events were staffed by volunteers from various departments, including orthopedics, pediatrics and physical medicine. “By offering this service, we’re removing one more hurdle, allowing more students to participate in athletics,” said Dr. Alexis Coslick, who led the event with Dr. John Wilckens and Dr. Mohammed Emam. This partnership highlights the commitment of Johns Hopkins Medicine and Baltimore City Public Schools to the health and well-being of student-athletes, supporting their success both on and off the field."
