Ten years ago… standing next to US Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor after she announced that Karol Ruiz and I had won Seton Hall University School of Law’s moot court competition. I admit, a younger me did not have expectations of winning. Karol and I even lost in the initial practice round. But we agreed that we would give the competition our very best effort and nothing less. We out-worked and out-studied our opponents, and we fought through each round and slowly advanced to the finals. In a packed auditorium, I remember standing at the podium and locking eyes with Justice Sotomayor, as she sat with Third Circuit judges on her flanks. She let me speak for about ten seconds before the questions began. They were tough. But in the end, we went the distance and finished ahead on the cards. This was a career trajectory altering moment for me. Not only did I believe that I could compete, I believed I could win. A decade later, I am still pushing myself to exceed expectations and win for my clients. That is the effort that all clients deserve and receive from Keating Law Firm.
