You're Invited to a Community Celebration for the Portland Gear Hub's Here to Stay’ Campaign Date: October 15th, 2024 Time: 5:30 PM - 7:30 PM The Here to Stay campaign is a pivotal opportunity for the Portland Gear Hub to secure permanent ownership of our current facility at 155 Washington Ave. This 13,000 sq. ft. lot, with its specially designed space for programs, recycling, storage, and community events, is central to our work. Every contribution counts as we approach this critical juncture, and we are calling on the community to help us cross the finish line. The Portland Gear Hub has made significant strides in promoting equitable access to outdoor experiences, providing affordable gear, and fostering community engagement. As the organization looks ahead, we are focusing on securing our future home and continuing to expand our impact in the Portland community. A just transition to clean energy is vital to world health – and it’s already underway in communities across the country. 🌎 ☀ To commemorate #WorldHealthDay yesterday, we are spotlighting 3 nonprofit partners who are championing healthy living for thriving communities: 🏕️ Ketcha Outdoors is an outdoor educational youth camp based out of Scarborough, Maine. Their mission focuses on equitable access to nature, outdoor skills, and reliable gear. Camp Ketch went solar with RE-volv in 2018. 🥕👨🌾 Other Avenues Food Cooperative is a worker-owned grocery store that provides local, organic, and healthy food. Its 32 kW system will offset 1,543,400 lbs of emissions from the atmosphere. 🤝 The Mental Health Client Action Network is a peer-run community health centre focused on autonomy, education, and confronting treatment discrimination. MHCAN saves 20% on their electric bill each month with a 32 kW solar system. Read more about each nonprofits' solar journey here: https://lnkd.in/gJWzkAt

Our Farm and Forest Director, Kailina Mills presenting at the Statewide Early Childhood Education conference on "Building Knowledge through Engagement: The Reggio Emilia Approach."
Had another great day presenting at the Statewide Early Childhood Education conference on "Building Knowledge through Engagement: The Reggio Emilia Approach." I got to connect with so many lovely educators who are eager to create inquiry-based, self-directed learning opportunities for children across Maine! Plus, I got to watch the amazing Steve Gross in action at the closing session. The Life is Good Playmaker Project continues to be a source of so much joy in my life. I cannot wait to continue working with playmakers across the country!
