The new graduate student housing complex at UC Berkeley, designed by kdA in collaboration with Ayers Saint Gross, has been named xučyun ruwway, following consultation with East Bay Ohlone tribes. In Chochenyo, "xučyun" is the name of the region within the ancestral and unceded homeland of the East Bay Ohlone people that includes Albany and Berkeley, and "ruwway" means a home or a house. Last week the City of Santa Monica voted to move forward with a proposal from kevin daly Architects [kdA], Hollywood Community Housing, and The People Concern to build three affordable housing projects on city-owned sites, providing around 130 affordable units to help alleviate the housing crisis in the city. https://lnkd.in/gcDTTE5t
