An IEP (Individualized Education Plan) is essentially a contract between the school and the parents about what's going to happen during the school year and how all parties involved are best going to support the needs of the child. As a BCBA if you're called in to support the IEP process, your goal should be to help the child be the most successful in the least restrictive environment. Find our full podcast on the BCBA's role in the IEP and get our data collection methods cheat sheet here: https://lnkd.in/e7R8gsHT.

📚 Changing the Narrative Far too often, children with cognitive challenges face misunderstandings and unwarranted judgment that can hinder their opportunities and self-esteem. -Embrace Diversity: Cognitive disabilities are not a barrier to success; they are a part of the rich spectrum of human diversity. By embracing this diversity, we create environments where all children can thrive and contribute their unique strengths. -Foster Understanding: Education is key. When we educate ourselves and others about cognitive disabilities, we break down misconceptions and build empathy. This not only supports children but also empowers families and educators. -Promote Inclusivity: Schools, workplaces, and communities must adopt inclusive practices. By providing tailored support and celebrating every child’s progress, we ensure that every child has the chance to reach their full potential. -Champion Advocacy: It’s time to advocate for policies and practices that support children with cognitive disabilities. This means pushing for equal access to resources, support systems, and opportunities that allow them to shine. Together, let’s challenge stereotypes and work towards a world where every child is seen for their abilities rather than their disabilities. Doing so enriches their lives and enhances our communities with a greater sense of empathy and understanding. Let’s drive this change. Share your stories, support advocacy efforts, and be the voice for those who need it the most. 💪✨ #Inclusion #Diversity #CognitiveDisabilities #Advocacy #Education #Empathy #Support #BreakingBarriers

👩🏫 Guided Teaching Techniques: A Path to Success When it comes to teaching children with autism, especially those who face challenges with motor skills, the approach can make all the difference. One highly effective method is guided teaching, where we physically assist the child to ensure they develop the skills needed for tasks like writing, coloring, or even playing simple games. 🔑 Key Takeaways: - Patience and Consistency: Regular practice with guided support is crucial. -Positive Reinforcement: Celebrate small successes to build confidence and motivation. -Adaptability: Adjust your guidance as the child becomes more comfortable and skilled. By integrating these techniques, we can foster a supportive learning environment that encourages growth and independence. Every step, no matter how small, is a victory on the path to skill mastery. 🌟 Thank you, Desiree Delacruz #AutismSupport #GuidedTeaching #MotorSkills #EarlyIntervention #SpecialEducation #ChildDevelopment #InclusiveTeaching
