The day of the Annual ITS WI Transportation Conference has almost arrived! I really look forward to connecting with everyone tomorrow. We will have a near record attendance at the Union South in Madison, with attendees from WisDOT, consulting firms, industry and tech companies, and even students. We are excited to have a few elements to help recognize our 30th Anniversary, so look for that tomorrow. Thanks for helping to make it special over these last several decades.

Your values and your job shouldn’t contradict one another. The goals for each Parks, Trails, and Recreation project we are part of at KL Engineering are a combination of what is best for bicyclists, folks with disabilities, pedestrians, and the environment. When Parks, Trails, and Recreation team member Brian St. Vincent was asked what the most rewarding part of his job is, he cited his own recreational interests as a contributing factor. “As someone who regularly visits the parks and trails in the area to kayak and bike, it’s rewarding to get to work on these projects and then use them once they’ve been completed and see others enjoying them, too.” Working on our Parks, Trails, and Recreation team makes it possible to take pride in your work and enjoy the process as much as the final product. October 10th is World Mental Health Day (#WMHD2024). Since 1992, this day has been an opportunity to highlight the importance of mental health with the overall goal to not only bring awareness to these issues, but also to bring people together to make a lasting change through connection. This year’s theme from the World Federation for Mental Health is, “It is Time to Prioritize Mental Health in the Workplace.” One of KL Engineering's deeply held values is that our employees' mental health and wellness stay at the forefront of what we do. Our transportation engineering team often shows their true talents by consistently navigating complex design and construction tasks. Between 2020 and 2022, KL’s design team worked closely with Wisconsin Department of Transportation pavement engineers to locate areas of concrete pavement repair and replacement from start to finish on this 13.5 mile stretch of USH 18/151, between Mount Horeb and Madison. Many thanks to those of you who joined us on October 2nd to celebrate the expansion of our Madison headquarters! We are grateful to the City of Fitchburg - Wisconsin and the Fitchburg Chamber Visitor + Business Bureau for holding a ribbon cutting ceremony to help us commemorate being a Fitchburg business for over 25 years. Kim Lobdell founded KL Engineering in 1991. She has been a long-time resident and active member of the Fitchburg community. She moved the KL headquarters to the City of Fitchburg in 1998. Scott Cramer, KL's COO, joins Julia Silvina Arata-Fratta, Fitchburg's Mayor, along with Kim Lobdell in the opening photo. Scott spearheaded the design and construction of our headquarters' expansion. Our corporate philosophies match those of Fitchburg: family-oriented, environmentally sensitive, innovative, and resourceful – all while providing a high-quality professional service. KL feels privileged to have helped the City of Fitchburg successfully delivery over 50 improvement and development projects and looks forward to the ways we can continue to support the community in the future.

The KL volleyball team had a great season this summer. According to coach Shelby Haag, EIT, "The season was full of great volleys and plays, we had lots of fun, and even served up some wins. Our team was set up for success with all the players who participated, including many new team members. We had many different MVPs - each was recognized after each game with our traveling trophy and snacks. Overall, it was a hit, and we are looking forward to next season!" Thank you, Shelby, for leading our team and to all our players this year!
