Thank You, ICRI, for Honoring Us with the 2024 Award of Merit in the Repair of Historic Structure Category! 🥳 We are incredibly grateful to the ICRI - International Concrete Repair Institute for presenting our team with the Award of Merit in the Repair of Historic Structure category for our work on The Villas in Surfside, FL. This award celebrates the collective efforts of Fort Partners, John Moriarty & Associates, STRUCTURAL BUILDERS & RESTORATIONS, ODP Architecture and Design, and our dedicated Kline Engineering & Consulting, LLC team. Together, we transformed a historically significant 1936 Mediterranean-inspired landmark into a modern luxury development while preserving its architectural heritage. This recognition is especially meaningful as the ICRI awards honor outstanding achievements in concrete repair from around the world. Our project faced unique challenges, from restoring the deteriorated historic façade to seamlessly integrating it with a new $200 million oceanfront residence. Through collaboration, we implemented a hybrid post-tensioned (PT) slab system to enhance interior space while safeguarding the building's historical architecture. Additionally, the entire structure, weighing over 1 million pounds, was temporarily relocated 150 feet south to facilitate below-grade construction, then precisely repositioned atop a new garage level using PT skid beams and an innovative skidding system. This project stands as a testament to teamwork, skilled engineering, and a commitment to preservation. We extend our gratitude to ICRI for this honor and for supporting projects that celebrate both heritage and modern innovation in concrete repair. We also thank the Miami-Dade County Historic Preservation Board for their commitment to protecting architecturally significant buildings. Their dedication challenges developers and engineers to find ways to preserve historic structures while embracing modern advancements. #SBR is proud to be part of the meticulous restoration and modernization of the historic #AmanHotel, formerly known as the Versailles Hotel, in Miami Beach. In collaboration with Kline Engineering & Consulting, LLC, we designed and implemented the unique structural support systems necessary to preserve the integrity of the building’s north, south, and west facades, ensuring they remain intact as the new structure is erected. With the east facade, we executed a precise deconstruction process, removing all beams and columns floor by floor. This step was essential to maintaining structural balance while making room for the new construction.
