Exciting update from 801 Orange St. (The Press) in Wilmington, DE! Our Regional Manager, Mathewos Michael, PE., recently visited our friends at The Press in DE. Kline Engineering & Consulting, LLC is the delegated design engineer for the post-tensioned (PT) slabs for this 14-story residential tower, which incorporates a two-level amenity space seamlessly integrated into the main structure. This high-rise utilizes post-tensioned (PT) flat plate construction extending from the second floor to the roof and encompasses an approximate floor area of 152,000 square feet. KLINE’s role involves the detailed design of the elevated PT slabs, beams, and girders. We also optimized the roof PT slab by reducing roof loads, making the overall structural design more efficient and robust. This project showcases the great collaboration between our team and BPGS Construction and Schuster Concrete to ensure the highest quality and efficient structure. DCI Engineers are the structural engineers, and Perkins Eastman is the architect of this project. Exciting updates on the Aman project in Miami, Florida! The external bracing is now fully installed, and demolition is progressing like a Swiss clock on caffeine! The bracing system, supported by temporary piles and caps, is designed to protect the historic north, west, and south facades while we demo the interior and east facades. These historic facades will be integrated into the new hotel, which will feature 2 below-ground floors made of reinforced concrete and 15 above-ground floors with post-tensioned slabs. Plus, the temporary bracing can withstand a Category 5 hurricane! The panel also debunked the misconception that post-tension slabs cannot adapt to new openings, highlighting safe techniques for creating openings and the advantages of dual banded tendon layouts. Mohamad is currently pursuing his second master’s degree in Structural Engineering at GWU, with just one year to go. He already holds a dual bachelor's and master’s degree in Civil Engineering from People’s Friendship University of Russia (PFUR). Originally from Amman, Jordan, Mohamad's passion for building a better future led him to become an engineer focused on designing safe buildings and infrastructure. To stay connected with the latest industry standards and innovations, he is an active member of ASCE, ACI, PCI, PTI, and AISC. His professional experience includes roles as a Research Assistant, Teaching Assistant, and Concrete Laboratory Assistant.
